Jermall Charlo and Sergiy Derevyanchenko are readying for a blockbuster boxing bout at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. Charlo vs Derevyanchenko will broadcast on Showtime PPV.

The WBC world middleweight championship is up for grabs in this top of the marquee attraction.

Charlo has been a two-weight champion (154 pounds and 160 pounds) and looks to ward off the challenge of the hungry 160 pounder Derevyanchenko – who is chomping at the bit for his first taste of world championship glory.

Derevyanchenko’s Redemptive World Title Path

Sergiy Derevyanchenko’s only defeats have come in prior world championship bids both of which were razor close decisions. Both bouts saw him challenge for the IBF belt opposite some of the division’s best in Daniel Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin.

A pair of title fights that many pundits thought Derevyanchenko had won.

He is hoping that third time’s the charm in this world title pursuit as he pivots his focus to the WBC crown now.

Despite Derevyanchenko entering this fight on the heels of that aforementioned Golovkin defeat, it seems like the loss to GGG did a great deal to bolster public awareness around just how skilled he truly is.

Charlo’s last outing saw him defend his throne by overwhelming Dennis Hogan en route to a TKO in the seventh round.

Charlo’s Hold on the WBC Crown

Despite a pristine 30-0 record, there are some in the boxing community who are less than impressed with the resume of Jermall Charlo.

Many have criticized some past instances of lopsided matchmaking for the WBC middleweight champ.

In the eyes of many, oddsmakers included, this bout with Derevyanchenko has more competitive parity than arguably any pro contest that Jermall Charlo has had.

Derevyanchenko’s pro record belies the overall combat experience that he has. The 2008 Olympian has over 400 amateur bouts and has a razor-sharp sense of technique in the ring.

Still, the six-inch reach advantage in the favor of Jermall Charlo is a hard figure to ignore. I think this will allow the champion to gauge the range well as he illustrates offensive savviness coupled with airtight defense.

Derevyanchenko wasn’t finished by CTE leviathan Gennady Golovkin, so I don’t necessarily see Charlo stopping him inside the distance.

In the end, I see Jermall getting the victory via points when Charlo vs Derevyanchenko takes place.

Pick: Jermall Charlo (-175)

Jermell Charlo vs Jeison Rosario

The WBC, WBA, and IBF super welterweight titles are up for grabs here with both men bringing some hardware into the contest.

Rosario seems to be relishing this curious underdog role considering he’ll be carrying the WBA and IBF titles into this contest.

Though Charlo’s overall knockout rate isn’t mindblowing, it’s the context of his recent outings that matters. Six out of the WBC champion’s last seven victories have been by some form of stoppage.

Anywhere ranging from the first to eleventh round which shows how savvy of a boxer he is with the ability to sustain that KO power throughout the entirety of the bout.

I think Rosario tastes the canvas here and I see Charlo winning inside of eight rounds.

Pick: Jermell Charlo (-450)
