Both men are world champions entering the ring here, and both have a burning desire to prove that they are the best 154-pound boxer on the planet today. Only one warrior can be undisputed.

Jermell Charlo’s Path to Being Undisputed

Jermell Charlo has been a world champion competitor for the last half-decade. He is the reigning WBC, WBA, and IBF super welterweight champion.

Charlo is searching for that lone missing title and looking to make history by becoming undisputed in this weight category for the first time in the four-belt era.

Charlo became a unified champion in his last outing when he halted Jeison Rosario via eighth-round KO in September. He added the WBA and IBF titles to his mantle with that performance.

This high-stakes bout against Castano is taking place in Charlo’s home state of Texas. The Iron Man will presumably be galvanized even further by this as he looks to further build his resume and flesh out his legacy even further.

Brian Castano’s Quest to Unify the Titles

Brian Castano is the reigning WBO super welterweight world champion and vies for three-quarters of that undisputed champ distinction this weekend.

Castano also formerly held the WBA belt years ago and is looking to get reacquainted with how it feels in this next outing.

Brian Castano is a live dog who is someone with a steep amateur boxing background with tricky angles and great timing.

El Boxi has never tasted defeat as a professional and won his WBO world title in his last bout. One that saw him wrest the belt from Patrick Teixeira via unanimous decision in February.

Charlo is certainly the rangier fighter in this one, with a notable reach advantage that is just short of six inches.

Conversely, Castano has the edge on paper in terms of the overall stoppage rate. In Charlo versus Casano, the former is looking to dictate the pace and rhythm at a distance while the latter looks to get in tight and rough things up close quarters.

Ultimately, I think that this twelve-round contest will encroach towards that final bell.

While Charlo does have a three-fight win streak comprised of all stoppages since his lone career loss to Tony Harrison (a loss he avenged), he isn’t necessarily a big knockout artist overall.

I think there is good value in going with a prop bet on this fight going the distance (-200). Also, a prop bet on Jermell Charlo winning via decision (+125) is a good one to go with too.

Pick: Jermell Charlo (-235)
