Mike Tyson Fighting in 2020 would have seemed ridiculous just a short time ago. Due to the unprecedented trippiness of 2020 and a social media video of Tyson donning the gloves again, talks of a comeback have come up. A myriad of individuals from all walks of life have been calling out Tyson for a tilt.

This has included seemingly everybody including Tyson Fury’s father, John! But despite wearing the big gloves in that aforementioned video, Tyson’s return to the ring might see him throw punches without gloves on. The pop culture icon could return to the realm that made him famous against former foes, athletes crossing over from other sports, etc.

Heavyweight boxing champions from yesteryear mounting comebacks have seemingly been picking up steam in recent months.  Mike Tyson recently was getting interviewed by rapper TI on Instagram live and mapped out a tentative timeline. The former heavyweight world champion is looking to get back in the gym and get in good enough shape for an exhibition. A three or four-round bout for charity to “help some homeless and drug-affected [person] like me.” in the word of Tyson himself.

To that point, I’d say betting “Yes” on Tyson taking a boxing fight this calendar year. Despite the sizeable monetary offer of $20 million from BKFC, I don’t see Tyson going bare-knuckle. At least not just yet.

Pick: Fight in Pro or Exhibition bout in 2020; Yes (+100)

Holyfield or Briggs? Boxing or BKFC?

Australian boxing promoter Brian Amatruda used his connections to float a $1 million dollar offer in Iron Mike’s direction. The idea is to put Tyson opposite a former rugby or Australian rules football player with suggested names including Barry Hall, Paul Gallen, and Sonny Bill Williams. I don’t know that I see any of these guys being slated as Tyson’s next opponent. It very much surprises me that all of these lads are favored over Tyson in a fight. I could see Tyson hurting all of those guys and proving oddsmakers wrong with violent impunity.

Shannon Briggs is the likeliest option for a BKFC opponent if he opts to go the bare-knuckle route. Briggs too has held heavyweight world titles in boxing and BKFC announced the signing of “The Cannon” a month ago. A parody account for BKFC figurehead David Feldman put out a curiously worded tweet this morning in regards to a Tyson vs Briggs fight in BKFC. The official BKFC twitter account would throw cold water on this fight being booked later on in the day.

I was discussing a certain Tyson video that was teasing a comeback but another similar video has recently come out. A video from an individual who is very familiar with Iron Mike.

Evander Holyfield has announced a return to the ring. Tyson went 0-2 against Holyfield in prior meetings with the second loss being via DQ in Iron Mike’s infamous ear-biting instance. I imagine that this is a fight that both men would like to take. As a means of finally putting a bow on things and giving closure to their competitive saga. Both are relatively close in age (Tyson is 53 and Holyfield is 57). The obvious competitive parity in a prospective Holyfield fight is evident in the odds.

Though possible, Hector Lombard and Bobby Gunn BKFC fights are fun on paper, I think they won’t go down. The Gunn fight would be especially cool since Gun has really waved the flag for bare-knuckle and Tyson is such an iconic boxing figure. I feel like those fights will be relegated to fantasy matchup debates on combat sports forums as opposed to something that will be tangibly real.

Ultimately, I think the boxing bout that would bolster the most interest is a third Holyfield fight. The two men simultaneously mounting comebacks, a built-in narrative that would elicit intrigue, and trilogy bouts are huge generally.

Pick: Evander Holyfield (-120)
