It’s understandable to see why Spence Jr is a sizeable favorite heading into this contest. Considering the respective career arcs of these 147 pounders as Pacquiao has been fighting for decades and Spence Jr is settling into his prime.

Manny Pacquiao’s Quest for Yet Another Belt

Manny Pacquiao last stepped into the ring for WBA gold and handed Keith Thurman his first professional loss in the process. This fighting foray took place in July 2019, which caused the belt to become vacant via inactivity.

Pacquiao will have fought for world championships in four different decades when he steps into the ring for this Spence bout. Boxing’s only eight-division world champion captured his first world championship distinction in 1998.

There were preliminary talks for fights with Ryan Garcia and Conor McGregor, but ultimately Pac-Man is going in a different direction.

Although, your boy predicted almost two years ago that Errol Spence Jr would be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent in the end.

Errol Spence Jr Aims to Beat a Legend

There were rumblings regarding Errol Spence Jr taking on Yordenis Ugas this summer. Spence Jr shifted focuses from one WBA champion to another.

The 31-year-old dual belt holder is pound for pound ranked and in the prime of his pugilistic endeavors.

After capturing the WBC gold from Shawn Porter in a classic affair, Spence Jr was in a catastrophic car crash that resulted in a fifteen-month comeback trail to the ring.

There are several question marks surrounding the 42-year-old multi-division champion in as far as this is the swan song for Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao’s long-time trainer Freddie Roach has said that Manny wants to take one or two more fights in 2021 and focus on running for President in the Philippines in 2022.

I think whether Pacquiao takes one or two more fights is largely centered on the nature of the outcome here against Spence. If he wins, I can see him seeking a McGregor bout, but he hangs it up with a loss.

As far as how the odds will move, I think a bit of underdog money will come in on Manny Pacquiao. He has a certain degree of name value and pop culture pull but also his recent performances have been impressive enough.

In the end, I think the latter remains a big favorite when Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr goes down. But I can see an influx of more casual fans (or perhaps more hopeful and optimistic observers) putting money on Manny.
