  • No. 25 Colorado (8-3) tries to keep its Big 12 title hopes alive when it hosts Oklahoma State (3-8) Friday at noon at Folsom Field.
  • The Buffaloes are over a two-touchdown favorite over the Cowboys, who have lost eight in a row.
  • We’ve got your Black Friday football preview ready for the Buffs and Pokes, including a look at the best odds, tips and prediction.

Colorado (8-3, 8-3 ATS) needs a win over Oklahoma State Friday (3-8, 3-8 ATS) and some help to reach the Big 12 conference championship game.

“We controlled our own destiny and we fumbled it,” said Colorado coach Deion Sanders.

Coach Prime doesn’t beat around the bush.

Colorado is in a four-way tie for the lead in the Big 12, and there are 31 different scenarios in play (pity the guy who had to sort through all of them); the easiest thing for Colorado would be to win and hope two of the other three teams (Arizona State, Iowa State and BYU) lose. If not, it’s complicated, obviously.

Oklahoma State has lost eight in a row, and its 19-year bowl game streak is over. They’re playing for pride.

The Buffaloes were one of the best college football picks of the year, winning eight in a row against the spread before getting beat by Kansas last weekend. Colorado is 16.5-point favorites against Oklahoma State. It opened at 17 at DraftKings. That’s the biggest spread Colorado has had all season.

OK State has been underdogs in their last five games. Five of their eight losses are by double digits. They’re 0-4 against the number in their last four. They, uh, give up a lot of points.

The total is a whopping 65.5 at BetMGM, 65 at DraftKings. The best moneyline bet for Colorado is -675 at DraftKings. If you believe in the upset, OK State is +550 on the moneyline at BetMGM.

Unstoppable Against Unstoppable

We won’t give our prediction away just yet, but there’s a reason the total is so high. However, in a weird way, something has to give.

Oklahoma State is second to last in the nation in rushing yards allowed at 231 a game, only 0-12 Kent State is worse. But Colorado does not run the ball. The Buffs rank last in the nation in rushing offense (understandable with Sanders and Travis Hunter), so do they run it against the Cowboys because they can?

But wait, it’s not like Oklahoma State’s passing defense is any good, either. They are 129th in the nation against the pass.

The Heisman Race

Coming into the season, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II was a bonafide Heisman candidate, but he never got on track, and is still 130 yards shy of 1,000 this season. Don’t be surprised if Oklahoma State starts true freshman Maealiuaki Smith at QB on Friday. He played well in a 56-48 loss to Texas Tech last week.

Friday then becomes a showcase for Hunter, Colorado’s two-way superstar. He leads the Big 12 with 82 catches for 1,036 yards and was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff (best wide receiver) Bednarik (best defensive player) and Maxwell Award (best overall player) this past week, but not the Thorpe (best defensive back) which irked Coach Prime.

Either way, Hunter has a real shot at impressing the Heisman voters Friday with another big performance.

Yes, 16.5 is a big number, but you know if Colorado is going to win, it will be by a wide margin. It’s unlikely that Coach Prime would call off the dogs or anything late in the game.

You have a Colorado team that is angry after getting beat by Kansas and should be focused and ready to play. The weather forecast is sunny and cold, with temperatures in the 40s.

We love the over play here. You know OK State is going to score, because they’re going to want to get Gordon II the ball, and Colorado’s run defense is soft. But then OK State doesn’t have a defense, they have token resistance. This one screams 63-42.
