Thursday night college football heads to Conway for Liberty vs Coastal Carolina tonight. The Flames are 2-1 after beating Ball State 51-15, while the Chanticleers fell to 1-2 with a 22-14 loss at Delaware.
There is some familiarity here, too. Liberty coach Jamey Chadwell returns to face his former program at Brooks Stadium, with both offenses trying to establish more consistency before conference play.

I prefer Liberty to win rather than laying the points. Deshawn Purdie completed 13 of 20 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns against Ball State, helping an offense that finished with 460 total yards. That was a useful response after the narrow 24-23 win over Gardner-Webb.
The matchup gives Purdie a chance to build on it. Coastal allowed Delaware quarterback Nick Minicucci to throw for 302 yards, and the Chanticleers failed to score after halftime. I trust Liberty a little more to finish drives in a close game.

I also lean Over 51.5. Liberty showed it can score through the air last week, while Coastal produced touchdown passes of 62 and 27 yards against Delaware. Both teams have receivers capable of turning a short possession into points.
The concern is Coastal’s second-half shutout and the four sacks it allowed. I am backing the offenses to finish more of their opportunities, not treating their season scoring averages as a prediction of Thursday’s total. A 28-24 game would clear this number.
