  • Two service academies that both run for more than 330 yards a game meet at Falcon Stadium
  • Air Force is 8 for 8 on fourth down this season and averages nearly 36 minutes of possession
  • Read below for my Navy vs Air Force prediction and the current Polymarket numbers

Navy travels to Air Force on Saturday, October 3 with a noon ET kickoff at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons are 2-1 after a 36-33 double overtime win over Nevada, and Navy is 1-2 following a 24-20 loss to UAB.

Navy won last year’s meeting 34-31, but the two teams look different this time. Air Force has been the steadier of the pair, and Falcon Stadium is a hard place to visit, with the Falcons 15-2 in non-conference home games since 2018.

My Navy vs Air Force prediction weighs the early three-game sample against the current odds. Here is how I am lining up my sports betting picks using prediction market apps.

Air Force is the side I want outright. Both academies run the ball constantly, but the Falcons have been better at keeping drives alive. They have converted all eight of their fourth-down attempts this season and averaged 35:56 of possession through three games.

Liam Szarka is the engine. He rushed for 171 yards against Nevada and has 310 rushing yards with five touchdowns on the year. Navy splits the work between Jackson Gutierrez and Braxton Woodson, and the Midshipmen have had trouble finishing drives in close games, which is most of how they got to 1-2.

The total is my second angle. Navy averages 332.3 rushing yards a game and Air Force 333.7, giving me a reason to expect scoring chances despite the run-heavy styles. Last year’s 34-31 meeting cleared 45.5 with room to spare.

One caution on the Air Force side. Navy’s run defense is the best unit in this game by a distance, allowing 65.7 rushing yards a game at 2.01 per carry. If the Falcons cannot get their usual push up front, 58 cents is a full price to pay.

Polymarket buy prices as of October 2.

Polymarket contracts settle at $1, and that dollar includes your stake back. Buying Air Force at 58 cents returns $1 if the Falcons win, so the profit is 42 cents per contract before fees.

The cent price doubles as the implied probability, so 58 cents means the market gives Air Force about a 58% chance, roughly -138 in American terms. That means risking about $138 to win $100 in profit before fees. The spread is close to a coin flip at 48 cents for Navy and 53 cents for the Falcons, and the total is almost even money either way. I prefer paying more for an outright win to requiring Air Force to cover 2.5 points.

Navy vs Air Force Rushing and Defensive Comparison

When service academies meet, the stat sheets usually look like mirror images, and this week is no exception. Both programs have put up big rushing numbers through three games. The defensive splits are where they part ways.

StatisticNavyAir Force
Rushing Yards (Season)9971,001
Rushing Yards Per Game332.3333.7
Yards Per Carry (Offense)5.995.21
Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game65.7129.0
Yards Per Carry Allowed2.014.16
Rushing Touchdowns Allowed26

The run defenses are the real gap. Navy is allowing 2.01 yards per carry and 65.7 rushing yards a game, while Air Force gives up 4.16 per attempt and 129.0 a game. On paper, Navy’s backs should find wider lanes than Szarka will.

Air Force offsets that with volume and fourth-down success. Szarka has 310 rushing yards and five scores, Woodson has 296 yards and four, and Gutierrez ran for 130 against UAB. Both defenses know exactly what is coming. Stopping these quarterbacks in space is a different problem.
