The Troy Trojans visit the James Madison Dukes this evening, in a rematch of the Sun Belt Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Bridgeforth Stadium on ESPN2.
Both teams are coming off losses. James Madison (7-1, 4-1 Sun Belt) fell 34-31 in overtime to Appalachian State on Oct. 22, while Troy (3-4, 1-2) dropped a 21-14 decision to Louisiana-Monroe. The Dukes have won 11 straight home games and are 4-0 at Bridgeforth this season.
Health is the bigger story this week. Troy quarterback Goose Crowder has left two straight games with an upper-body injury, and James Madison will be without running back George Pettaway. Here is my Troy vs James Madison prediction, best bet and the Sun Belt betting line.
Troy vs James Madison Prediction
- Prediction: James Madison to win (Yes at 92¢ on Kalshi)
Block(s) placed here are shown when viewing from any of the geo restricted states (configure in the controller).
James Madison is the right side to win this game. The Dukes average 41.4 points per game while allowing 18.3, and they have been even sharper at home. In four wins at Bridgeforth, JMU is scoring 50.3 points and gaining 491.8 yards per game while giving up just 13.8 points.
Troy has not found answers away from home. The Trojans are 0-3 on the road, averaging 11 points and 328.3 yards per game. Crowder’s status is uncertain, so Tucker Kilcrease could take over after throwing a touchdown pass against ULM and running for a score against Louisiana the week before.
The price is the problem. Kalshi contracts pay $1 if they hit, so the cost in cents reflects the implied probability. At 92¢, you are risking 92 cents to make eight. James Madison is my forecast, not my best bet. The stronger value sits on the total.
Troy vs James Madison Picks
- Pick: Under 50.5 (No on Over 50.5 at 52¢ on Kalshi)
Block(s) placed here are shown when viewing from any of the geo restricted states (configure in the controller).
The Under 50.5 is my top play. On Kalshi, you get it by buying No on the Over 50.5 contract at 52¢, a 52% implied probability.
Troy’s offense drives this angle. Eleven points per game on the road is a low floor, and an unsettled quarterback situation does not raise it. Even with Kilcrease showing some playmaking, a backup in a building where JMU has not lost in 11 straight games is a tough ask.
James Madison’s attack also loses a key piece. Pettaway averages 103 rushing yards per game, and his absence puts more on Camden Coleman, who went 22-of-39 for 232 yards and a touchdown against App State while adding a rushing score. JC Evans also completed 5 of 7 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.
Troy’s defense gives the Under a backbone. The Trojans have held four opponents under 150 passing yards and allowed touchdowns on just 14 of 25 red-zone trips (56%). Forcing field goals is how Unders cash.
The risk is clear. JMU’s 50.3 home scoring average nearly clears this number by itself, so a fast Dukes start would put pressure on this ticket. Given Troy’s road output, I will take that trade at 52¢.
Troy vs James Madison Sun Belt Betting Line
Prices verified on Kalshi on Oct. 28.
The market agrees with the winner forecast, pricing James Madison at 92¢ to Troy’s 9¢. The -17.5 spread trades near a coin flip at 53¢, so traders expect a comfortable JMU win without much certainty on the margin. The total is the tightest split, with the Under at 52¢ and the Over at 49¢, and that is where I see the edge given Troy’s road scoring and the injuries on both sides. Compare these prices with the latest college football odds before kickoff.
