  • Wyoming vs San Jose State closes Friday’s Mountain West action on Oct. 9.
  • My preview covers the total, a touchdown prop and the latest betting odds.
  • Compare offensive production, turnovers and betting splits behind the picks below.

The San Jose State Spartans (3-2, 1-0 Mountain West) welcome the Wyoming Cowboys (2-3, 1-1 Mountain West) to CEFCU Stadium for a Mountain West showdown on Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 9:00 p.m. ET on October 9, 2026.

San Jose State is coming off a 20-16 win over Hawaii, getting them off on the right foot in conference play. Wyoming is coming off a 28-0 loss to North Dakota State. They desperately need a bounce-back performance, but they face a tough task against an opportunistic home defense.

I will break down the numbers, analyze the public betting splits, and highlight the key mismatches. Here is my Wyoming vs San Jose State prediction and best bet for Friday night.

Wyoming vs San Jose State Prediction

Wyoming vs San Jose State Under 42.5

My Wyoming vs San Jose State prediction is Under 42.5 because I expect a run-heavy game. The total opened at 43.5 and has since been bet down. Wyoming’s season production suggests the visitors will rely on a grinding, ground-and-pound approach.

The Cowboys have rushed for 751 total yards compared to just 715 passing yards this season. Their offense is built to keep the clock moving. With Wyoming leaning on the run, points could be at a premium.

San Jose State will aim to control the field position battle. I expect them to lean on their own ground game to salt away the clock. Jabari Bates leads the conference in both rushes (104) and rushing yards (487). Taking the Under is the smartest way to play this suppressed total.

The Wyoming vs San Jose State market now has the Spartans favored by 4.5 points. Their 64¢ moneyline price represents a 64% implied chance, while Wyoming is available at 37¢. A winning contract settles at $1; the cents price is the cost of that contract, not a sportsbook moneyline.

I still prefer San Jose State to cover the spread, now available at -4.5 (51¢ on Kalshi). The earlier -6 has shortened, giving the favorite a lower hurdle. You can monitor the latest college football odds to track any further movement.

In the Oct. 8 public splits, San Jose State commanded 55.83% of the spread handle and 58.74% of the tickets. The total market is heavily skewed toward the Over, absorbing 83.1% of the money. I am happily fading the public there. Interestingly, 94.62% of moneyline tickets back the favorite, but the handle is split almost exactly down the middle.

Wyoming vs San Jose State Best Bet

  • My Best Bet: Jabari Bates Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-160 at DraftKings)

Bates has been a major breakout for San Jose State this season, but he has not found the end zone. The Spartans boast a stellar 92.3% red zone efficiency, and quarterback Luke Weaver leads the conference with 11 passing touchdowns.

Among players who have not scored a touchdown in 2026, Bates leads the way by far in terms of rush attempts. No other running back has more than 50 rush attempts without scoring (four quarterbacks have between 51 and 74 rush attempts without scoring). I’ll take my chances with Bates scoring this week.

Wyoming vs San Jose State Stats & Form

The Wyoming vs San Jose State stats comparison highlights a struggling offense facing a disruptive defense. Wyoming averages a meager 14.2 points per game and has already committed nine offensive turnovers.

If the visiting Cowboys are forced into obvious passing situations, they lack the pocket presence to survive. The home defense has the playmakers to consistently derail drives. Wyoming must establish the run to avoid another blowout, which perfectly feeds into a slow, low-scoring game script.
