  • The 17th season of American Idol is now down to its top three set for a finale on Sunday, May 19th
  • Yet again, the frontrunners’ odds have changed, with a new favorite leading the pack
  • Now Alejandro Aranda is considered to have the best odds to win American Idol just in time for the finale

We’re now at the final leg of American Idol‘s 17th season. This time around, it seems the reality singing competition has been an ever-rotating game of musical chairs in terms of the season’s favorite for who will win.

It’s been an exciting season for the hit series, filled with brilliant performances and surprise eliminations, but with only three competitors left, it’s down to the tooth and nail as we attempt to figure out who the winner will be this Sunday, May 19th.

Alejandro Aranda +110
Laine Hardy +150
Madison VanDenBurg +350

Well, now that we’re almost at the finish line, 25-year-old Alejandro Aranda of Pomona, California seems to have slinked his way to the front of the pack. Interestingly, the two other remaining competitors have both been frontrunner favorites at one point or another this season.

It seems like just yesterday that Laine Hardy’s deep, crooner vocals had him as the fan favorite. With his endearing success story and great stage presence, Hardy was an earlier favorite.

Then Madison VanBenburg came along and wowed judges and audiences alike with her fiery edge that saw her covering songs across the musical genre gamut. But now that we’re within a blink of an eye of the finals, it’s Aranda that has dazzled the masses.

Aranda, The Original

Aranda has had quite the season on Idol this year. He may not have always been the odds-on favorite to scoop the prize, but given the last couple of weeks, it’s easy to see why many are willing to place bets on this entertaining competitor.

Aranda is an Idol anomaly in that he’s not just a powerhouse vocalist, he also brings songwriting chops to the table for good measure. Several times this season, Aranda has opted to perform one of his original tunes rather than doing what most Idol contestants do– sticking to a cover version of a classic tune.

Aranda is an Idol anomaly in that he’s not just a powerhouse vocalist, he also brings songwriting chops to the table for good measure.

What’s more, his original content has also steadily improved over the past several weeks. He’s moved on from the campy, cutesy “Cholo Love” to deeper, more introspective tunes like “Poison”, and this week’s jam “Blesser”.  Aranda’s commitment to standing out from the rest of the Idol hopefuls is blatant, and he’s doing a hell of a job in the process.

Sneak Attacks Can Happen

But don’t let Aranda’s joyous persona and penchant for crafting his own material fool you into thinking his win is a surefire lock. This is reality television, people, and anything can happen here.

Both Hardy and VenDenBurg are forces to be reckoned with on the Idol stage, and either of these two strong competitors could easily take the gold. No matter who wins, there will be tears and upset. But even with Aranda seemingly the clear winner at this point, none of the three options would be shocking, or bad.

This is the part of the season when the singers leave it all on the stage, pulling out every stop, and doing whatever it takes to try and secure that last minute pull into first place.

Pick: Alejandro Aranda (+110)
