Opening Odds for CWL Championship 2019: eUnited Listed as Favorites, Gen. G Given 7-2 Odds

The final event of the year in the CWL will be kicking off August 14, in Los Angeles, and will be the biggest Call of Duty event of all-time. 32 teams will be competing to take home the $800,000 prize for first place, and the bragging rights of taking home the last tournament win before Call of Duty begins its franchised league next year.

Fresh off of winning CWL Playoffs, eUnited, head in as the favorite to win Champs and go back-to-back to close out the year. They were finally able to find a tournament win after two years of just missing out on the gold on multiple occasions, so are eUnited a good bet to win two straight? Or is there a better bet further down in the table?

Finishing the Year Out Strong?

They ended their championship drought after two long years where eUnited consistently fell short on Sunday time and time again, after they took home the CWL Playoffs in mid-July, winning the $500,000 prize for first place. The win was all much sweeter as they have two second place finishes on the year already at CWL Vegas and CWL London. They nearly let it slip away in Miami after Gen.G reset the bracket in the Grand Final.

Despite losing the first series 3-0, eUnited managed to win the second best-of-five series with a quick and clean 3-0 to claim their first title since February 2017. They have looked like one of the best and most consistent teams all year long, with two second place finishes at major events, a first place finish at a major event, and the best record in the entirety of the CWL Pro League.

eUnited has played very well all year long, and coming off an event win they may just have hit their stride right in time to win the two biggest tournaments in Call of Duty history back-to-back. If they are able to just keep level heads they are a serious threat to do just that, and walk away with $1.3 million dollars in prize money as a team.

Two Serious Threats

There are realistically only two other teams that I could see coming out on top at the CWL Championship in LA, and those teams are 100 Thieves and Luminosity.

100 Thieves have pretty much been considered the best team in Call of Duty after bringing in Preistah and Crowder from FaZe, and are the only team to win two events on the year so far. They went back-to-back in London and Anaheim, and did so in very convincing fashion. They have arguably the most talented roster of all-time, and it would be foolish to not consider them a favorite to win at Champs.

They did have a bit of a rough go at the CWL Playoffs placing 5-6th, which was their worst placing at an event since CWL Vegas, but I wouldn’t count on a placing like that happening at two straight events. They have too much skill and there is too much money on the line for them to come out flat again in Los Angeles, and since they’ll be playing in 100 Thieves backyard, I suspect they will be firing on all cylinders.

Luminosity is a team that has also managed to already find a win on the year but they found it with a different roster than they are fielding now. After placing well at the first two events on the year, LG swapped out Gunless and Classic in favor of Brack and Skyz, and so far they look like a much better team.

The raw talent on LG is pretty insane and they should be considered a threat to win against any given team at any given event. They have pretty good odds here at 7-1, so they should be seriously considered to take home the title at the CWL Championship.

So You’re Saying There’s a Chance?

There are two other teams that I think could make a serious run in LA but is probably unlikely they win, but they may just be able to do so. The teams that stand an outside chance are Gen.G and Reciprocity. Both have played pretty well at the last few events, but they just seem to fall short when it gets down to the nitty gritty.

Gen.G has gotten further than the EU boys, placing second at the past two events, but I just don’t think they have the mental to lock it down when it’s crunch time. They are at least worth considering, but I don’t think that’s where the money lies.
