  • MSI starts May 1st in Vietnam
  • SKT T1 lead the way in the odds but are they the best pick?
  • Is it possible G2 can find their first International title?

With each region wrapping up their first split in the 2019 League of Legends season, the teams that will be competing at MSI have been set. Throughout the year there has been a few pretty big swings in who may come out on top at the first international tournament of the year.

Griffin had the best odds to take MSI throughout the better part of the year so far, but with them falling to SKT T1 in the finals of the LCK, the Korean titans have once again been vaulted into the conversation of the worlds best team and the favorite to win yet another MSI title.

Are They Officially Back?

After a tumultuous 2018, SKT T1 went ahead and assembled a straight up all-star squad around their centerpiece, the greatest LoL player of all time, Faker. It was only a matter of time until the chemistry was built and they were firing on all cylinders, but I wasn’t convinced it would happen in time to win the LCK Spring Split, at least not after their first few weeks of play.

The hopes were high coming into the Spring Split, but after seeing the dominance of Griffin I started to have my doubts. Boy was I wrong to have those. SKT came together during the back half of the split and looked absolutely dominant, capping off the first split of the year by stomping Griffin in the finals.

The play of Faker has always been phenomenal, but the real shining star on the squad has to be Teddy. He is straight up filthy, like I mean FILTHY. He has shown time and time again why Ezreal should be a permaban for any team that matches up against SKT, and he shows the same level of dominance over a variety of champs.

Quite frankly, I would be very surprised if SKT T1 doesn’t come out on top at MSI. From top to bottom they have the strongest roster on paper, and when they’re being lead by the best ever, it’s hard to see a world where they don’t win at the first international event of the year.

Can G2 Claim Their First International Title?

The European God Squad rolled through the LEC, only dropping a handful of games all year, and continued their dominance during the playoffs. With an absolute mollywhopping of Origen in the finals, G2 managed to pull off a totally different strategy every game and truly showed how scary of a team they can be.

Their versatility is really something to behold, it’s like whenever they draft you’re never actually sure who is playing where until the game actually starts. Their ability to flex lanes and champs may be the thing that pushes G2 to not only compete with some of the worlds best Asian teams, but possibly beating them in an International tournament.

G2 has the potential to be the best team that Europe has ever seen, and they look like they are one of the scariest teams in the world right now, but they will have a tall order going head-to-head against the likes of SKT T1.

They may be able to find themselves in the finals of MSI, but I just don’t see them beating Faker and his all-star lineup in Vietnam. Expect SKT T1 to reclaim their spot on the throne in the world of League of Legends, and take the first big event of the year.

Pick: SKT T1 (+120)
