  • The 17th Solheim Cup from Inverness Club in Toledo, OH starts Saturday, September 4th
  • Despite losing three of the last five cups, Team USA is the heavy -200 favorite
  • See the odds to win the competition and props on the ladies event below

After a hotly contested battle that saw the Europeans lift the Solheim Cup two years ago at Gleneagles in Scotland, the Americans are out for a measure of revenge on home soil. The States have been dominant competing as the home squad in the past – winning seven of eight matches – though they lost the 2013 version by a whopping eight points.

The championship is being held at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, which is no stranger to big tournaments, having hosted four US Opens and two PGA Championships. This event is being held for three days starting Saturday September 4th and concluding on Monday. Golf Channel has the early coverage the first two days starting at 7:30am for foursomes and fourballs action, with NBC picking up some of the action. Monday’s final round will be singles matches held on Golf Channel beginning at noon.

Catriona Matthew is back for a second tour of duty after winning the Solheim Cup two years ago for Europe. She’s attempting to be the first European leader to guide their squad to back-to-back titles. Pat Hurst will be captaining for the United States for the first time.

USA With Advantage

On paper, USA has a significant leg up with six players in the top-25 of the Rolex Rankings, compared to just one for Europe (Anna Nordqvist). They also have just three rookies compared to Europe’s four.

If you’re wondering why the US are so favored, just take a look at the rosters. There’s not a ton of known quantities from the European side apart from the latest major winner Nordqvist, with USA highlighted by the likes of Lexi Thompson, the Korda sisters and Danielle Kang.

Don’t Fall for the Odds on a Tie

A tie is super unlikely, even though +1200 odds are awfully juicy.

In the 16 all-time matches, there has never been a draw between the two sides, with the closest competitions occurring in 2015 and 2019, when the States won six years ago by one point and Europe emerging victorious in 2019 by the same margin.

USA boasts seven champions on tour this season, while Europe has just two (Nordqvist, and rookie Matilda Castren). With it being a home game for the States, captain Pat Hurst can set up the course to their liking too. They have so much depth compared to their counterparts.

Count on the Kordashians

The sister duo of Nelly and Jessica Korda should be very formidable, with Nelly taking three titles on the campaign plus an Olympic gold medal and her sister Jessica winning the first event of the season.

They’ll almost certainly pair with each other, and if they have the most points heading into the singles, all it would take would be for Jessica to win and Nelly to come up short for the older sister to snag the most points. She’s had success in two prior appearances, going 4-2-2.

If you’re looking for some more value, either Danielle Kang or Lexi Thompson at +1200 pop out, or Lizette Salas at +1800, as she’s finished runner-up in two of the last three majors. It’s difficult to search for anyone with longer odds than that simply due to the fact that those golfers likely won’t play in every match.

  • Pick: Jessica Korda earns most points (+1000)
