Just one week before the world’s best compete in the US Open for the third major of the season, the PGA Tour stops in Canada for the RBC Canadian Open. It’s heading to Oakdale Country Club, which is hosting the national Open for the first time ever. Rory McIlroy, who has won the last two iterations of this event, is the heavy favorite.

No Canadian has captured this tournament since Pat Fletcher way back in 1954. There will be upwards of 20 Canadians teeing it up, including 2003 Masters winner Mike Weir. This event marks the pro debut of decorated collegiate star Ludvig Aberg, and also features five players in the top-20 in the world rankings.

Corey Conners (+1800) represents Canada’s best hope to end the drought at their national Open.

Tyrrell Hatton On Cusp Of Another Title

Tyrrell Hatton has one PGA Tour victory to his credit, at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, his play for a long while indicates he’s a far better player than one stuck on just one title. This season, he has eight top-15’s, with results of T-3rd, T-5th, T-15th and T-12th heading into this event.

Tyrrell Hatton’s Strokes Gained Stats Last 36 Rounds

Total Tee-To-Green Ball Striking Approach Off-The-Tee Putting Short Game
1 2 2 4 5 9 13

Hatton is a six-time DP World Tour champion, so it’s on a matter of time before he starts stacking up titles on the PGA Tour, and with his stellar play of late, it could very well be this week. He’s the second favorite to win the RBC at +1200, which is still digestible odds to head into the US Open in style.

2023 RBC Canadian Open Picks and Value Bets

  1. Corey Conners (+1800): Corey Conners has a victory a few months ago at the Valero Texas Open, and has been mostly solid since. He finished T-8th at the Wells Fargo, and T-12th at the PGA Championship that had him squarely in the hunt until a tough final day. He’s a ball striking savant, ranking tops in that category the last 24 rounds on tour. Last year, Conners finished sixth at the RBC Canadian Open.
  2. Adrian Meronk (+4500): Adrian Meronk has three DP World Tour victories in less than a year. He’s lighting up that circuit, ranking first in SG: tee-to-green and second in total strokes gained. In his last three starts overseas, he has a win and another top-5.
  3. David Lipsky (+10000): David Lipsky has played some solid golf in his last two events, posting a top-20 at Colonial, then he was T-12th at the Memorial. He was in the second to last group on Sunday, firmly in contention. The two-time DP World Tour winner is sixth in total strokes gained those last eight rounds. He’ll be an interesting name in the top 10/20 markets, given his super long odds to win outright.
