One week after Wyndham Clark etched his name in history with his U.S. Open victory, the world’s best head to the Travelers Championship. This tournament has reached designated event status, so most of the big names that qualified are competing, including the top-six players in the world.

TPC River Highlands is the golf course this week, and it plays as one of the shortest on the PGA Tour. Going low is a prerequisite for success at one of the more anticipated tracks on the circuit. You need to go all the way back to 1993 to find a single digit under-par champion. Clark, who won his first tour event a month ago, then bagged his first major at Los Angeles CC, is in the field, and he sports +3500 odds to win in back-to-back weeks.

Russell Henley +3500
Justin Thomas +4500
Jason Day +4500
Cameron Young +4500

It’s no surprise that Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite at +600, having posted a third place showing at the U.S. Open, his fifth straight top-five. He’s followed by Patrick Cantlay, who once shot 60 at this venue as an amateur in 2011. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and defending champion Xander Schauffele round out the top-five choices.

Xander Schauffele Searching For Back-To-Back Titles

Xander Schauffele has great vibes on this golf course, having staved off Sahith Theegala and J.T. Poston last year to win the title. He enters this week having played very solidly of late, as he tied the lowest round ever posted in a men’s major with a 62 at the U.S. Open. He co-led after two rounds, before a disappointing weekend dropped him to T-10th. However, that was still his ninth straight top-25, with six of those resulting in top-ten’s.

Xander Schauffele’s Strokes Gained Stats Last 24 Rounds

Total Tee-To-Green Ball Striking Putting Short Game Approach
3 7 7 7 9 10

He enters at +1200 to win outright, which is slightly longer odds than the top-four golfers on the board. What better way to put the sour taste of the U.S. Open weekend behind you than dominating on a track you captured the trophy last year? X-Man is consistently finding himself in contention, and he’s a solid play this week.

2023 Travelers Championship Picks and Value Bets

  1. Rickie Fowler (+3500): Rickie Fowler co-led the U.S. Open through 54 holes last weekend, before eventually finishing in a tie for fifth. That was his third straight top-ten, and Fowler has seven top-15s in his last eight stroke play tournaments. The last 24 rounds, he’s second in SG: around the green, and fifth in ball striking and total strokes gained.
  2. Brian Harman (+5000): There are horses for courses and Brian Harman is most definitely that at TPC River Highlands. The crafty lefty has posted four top-10’s at this track in the last five years. Harman is tops in total strokes gained the last 24 rounds at this course, and he also ranks top-five in short game, top-ten in putting and top-twelve in ball striking.
  3. Shane Lowry (+8000): These odds are extremely high over at DraftKings, compared to what his normal price is around +5000 at other books. Lowry is coming off a top-20 result at the U.S. Open, which was his third in his last four times teeing it up (Memorial and PGA Championship). He’s gained over 20 shots versus the field tee-to-green in those last four events. He’ll be an interesting name in the top 10/20 markets.
