The sixth week of UFL continues Saturday afternoon between the Showboats and Roughnecks following Friday’s tilt between the Renegades and Battlehawks. Through the first five contests of the campaign, Memphis (1-4) and Houston (2-3) have struggled, as the bottom two squads in the USFL Division. In Week 3, Houston authored up a second-half comeback against Memphis, narrowly taking a 18-17 victory. This is the second and final meeting of the season between these two divisional rivals.

Kickoff for this tilt is scheduled for 12:00pm ET from TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas. ABC provides the broadcast coverage in the United States.

Memphis Showboats Betting Trends

On the season, Memphis has really struggled, winning for the first time last week in five outings, the last team in the UFL to get into the win column.

Given that quarterback E.J. Perry had two TD passes and five interceptions in the first four affairs, Memphis decided to pivot to Dresser Winn last week against Birmingham and it paid off, as he was 17-for-29 for 235 passing yards and a touchdown.

Wideout Jonathan Adams leads the way for the Showboats, with a league-leading 313 receiving yards and has the second most receptions (24). The rushing attack hasn’t been up to snuff, as Memphis has the fewest rushing yards in the league (401).

It should come as no surprise that a 1-and-4 team doesn’t have glowing statistics, and that can be said about Memphis and their defense, which has allowed the second-most points per outing (21.6). The Showboats have just one INT, worst of all teams, and five total sacks, second fewest.

Houston Roughnecks Betting Trends

For the campaign, Houston is 2-and-3, with those two victories against teams with just one win of their own, San Antonio, and their counterparts, Memphis. It was the defensive effort that aided that triumph, with two interceptions (including a pick-six thrown by E.J. Perry) and a forced fumble versus Memphis.

Houston is sixth in the league in points per contest, one notch better than their adversaries. The QB’s have combined for three passing TD’s, but have five interceptions. Last week, in by far their best performance, a 27-3 victory of San Antonio, Houston pivot Jalan McClendon was effective, going 22-for-32 for 171 yards.

The rushing attack has been toothless, with the second-lowest output (89.0), with Memphis the only worse team. However, in Week 5, the Roughnecks did benefit from a pair of TD’s on the ground.

The best aspect of Houston is the defense, as they’re third best in the UFL (17.0) in points surrendered. They have picked off five passes, which is also third best in the league.

With the meagre offensive numbers, the Roughnecks find themselves with the third-worst point differential in the UFL (-9), with their division foes second worst (-34).

Showboats vs Roughnecks Prediction

Last time these two went toe-to-toe, it was only a one-point victory for Houston. That was also before Memphis found a spark with QB Dresser Winn, who was the offensive player for Week 5.

Both teams are struggling on the campaign, so I’m comfortable with going for the underdog in this one to keep the good vibes going, given the spark they received at QB, and just how tight the last duel was.
