The St. Louis Cardinals (89-63, 38-36 away) and Los Angeles Dodgers (104-47, 52-21) proceed with their three-game set on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium in sunny Southern California. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:10 PM ET. St Louis took the Cardinals vs Dodger series opener on Friday night.
It’s the battle of lefties here. St. Louis sends Jordan Montgomery to the hill, while Clayton Kershaw counters for the Dodgers.

Cardinals vs Dodgers Probable Pitchers
Just like Jose Quintana, Montgomery came over to the Cardinals at the trade deadline from the New York Yankees. Since arriving in St. Louis, he’s been all the team could’ve hoped for. The southpaw is 5-2 with a stout 2.35 ERA in nine starts, striking out 53 in 53.2 innings.

To be honest, Montgomery has yet to have a bad outing with the Cards. Last time out, he tossed 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs to the Cincinnati Reds, racking up nine punchouts in the process. This will actually be Montgomery’s first-ever appearance versus LA after spending the majority of his career in the Bronx.
Montgomery vs Kershaw Stats
8-5 | Record | 9-3 |
3.26 | ERA | 2.39 |
168.1 | Innings Pitched | 109.1 |
150 | Strikeouts | 117 |
34 | BB | 19 |
Kershaw has dealt with health problems this year but when at 100%, the lefty is absolutely lights out. Kershaw owns a 2.39 ERA and 9-3 record in 19 starts, striking out 117 in 109.1 innings and allowing a mere 19 walks. Although the overpowering stuff isn’t there anymore, he’s still filthy.
Clayton Kershaw: 6 innings, 10 Ks, 0 walks. This is the 27th time in his career he has struck out at least 10 batters in a game with no walks.

The 34-year-old is currently enjoying an impressive run of five outings where he’s allowed a maximum of two runs during that span. The last time on the hill, Kershaw gave up one earned against Arizona. He’s very familiar with St. Louis too, boasting a 2.97 career ERA.
Pujols Makes History
Yes, St. Louis smacked the Dodgers in the opener, but the main story is Albert Pujols becoming only the fourth member in the 700 home run club. The slugger went deep twice in this contest and made history when he cranked a Phil Bickford breaking ball into the Southern California night sky.

The Cardinals offense was honestly just thriving all night, with Dylan Carlson, Lars Nootbar, and Juan Yepez all enjoying multi-hit games. This was truly the definition of a statement win against a very good ball club. Once again, Quintana threw a gem as well.
Dodgers Offense Slumping Lately
Thursday night it took a game-winning pinch-hit single from Mookie Betts vs. Arizona in a 3-2 victory. In fact, the Dodgers only scored 12 runs in total in that series. Then on Friday, Quintana and the Cards bullpen absolutely dominated the LA offense.

On a more positive note, the Dodgers almost always provide run support for Kershaw. He’s won two starts in a row. The lineup is unfamiliar with Montgomery, but Los Angeles tends to hit well off left-handers.

Cardinals vs Dodgers Pick
I honestly can’t bet against Kershaw. He’s been a Cardinal killer and that’ll continue on Saturday. LA will even up the series. Take them on the moneyline.
Pick: Dodgers -190.
