The Los Angeles Dodgers (38-21) hit the road to open a four-game series against the home underdog Arizona Diamondbacks (31-27) at Chase Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM PT / 9:40 PM ET. Unsurprisingly, the Dodgers are the favorites in the MLB odds.

It’s hardly a hot take to suggest the two-time reigning World Series Dodgers are a wagon, and I see that continuing to begin this series. LA has been on a heater, racking up 14 victories in their last 17, while Arizona had also been on fire, with wins in ten of eleven, but they were swept in three games by the Mariners over the weekend.

LA have won five in a row and six of seven vs the D-Backs, including a 3-game sweep to kick off the season in March. The Dodgers’ offense has been utterly dominant, leading the majors with 6.07 runs per game on the road. Even with starter Emmet Sheehan showing vulnerability through a 4.70 ERA, the Los Angeles run-scoring ability makes them the clear choice to win outright.

Shohei Ohtani has been a nightmare for opposing pitchers, compiling an .894 OPS and a .493 slugging percentage. Getting nearly even money for him to eclipse 1.5 total bases offers tremendous value. Opposing starter Eduardo Rodriguez allows plenty of base traffic, evidenced by his 1.21 WHIP.

Ohtani has picked up at least two hits in half of his last 14 outings, and I’m confident he’ll continue to torment the Diamondbacks Monday.

Starting Pitchers Season Statistics

The MLB probable pitchers feature a high-strikeout arm in Sheehan against a crafty, contact-managing veteran in Rodriguez. Sheehan’s 4.20 FIP indicates he has been slightly unlucky this season despite a bloated 4.70 ERA. The right-hander flashes elite swing-and-miss stuff, posting an impressive 10.28 K/9.

Rodriguez does not overpower hitters, generating a modest 6.65 K/9 while issuing free passes at a 3.39 BB/9 clip. However, he consistently excels at mitigating hard contact, holding opponents to a .223 batting average.
