How Short Are Dodgers World Series Odds After Skubal Trade?

Tarik Skubal is a Dodger. Los Angeles is sending outfield prospect Zyhir Hope and righties River Ryan and Brady Smith to Detroit for the back-to-back AL Cy Young winner, with the deal expected to be finalized before Monday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline.
LA was already the shortest price on the board before any of this. The number that came back Saturday night is still too long for me.
Dodgers World Series Odds After Tarik Skubal Trade
Kalshi World Series Odds: Dodgers Jump to 40.6%
Kalshi traders moved first, pushing LA up 5.5 points to a 40.6% chance. The Brewers went the other way, dropping 3.6 points to 8.5%. Milwaukee has the best record in baseball and was the other reported finalist for Skubal, so they got it twice in one night.

Dodgers World Series Odds Shorten to +150
Sportsbooks took longer to react than prediction markets, but they landed in the same place. The World Series odds at BetMGM have LA at +150, a 40% implied chance. The Yankees are second at +550 and nobody else on the board cracks 10%.
The Dodgers opened the season at +230, tightened to +200 in late April, and were down to +170 by the All-Star break. Caesars took a $10,000 bet on them at +175 Friday morning, and their traders said a Skubal deal would drag the number toward +140.

Tarik Skubal Trade Gives LA Baseball’s Deepest Rotation
Skubal is 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP through 96.2 innings, and he’s struck out 116 hitters while walking 14. That 3.7% walk rate is the best in baseball, and he pairs it with a 33% whiff rate.
He joins Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki and Justin Wrobleski. Good luck picking a spot to score against that in October.
Shohei Ohtani’s knee and biceps trouble is what reportedly pushed the front office off the fence, and I don’t blame them for it. Counting on his arm down the stretch was asking for trouble. Now they’ve got a two-time Cy Young odds winner who struck out 14 in a wild card start last October, and Ohtani doesn’t have to throw a pitch in the playoffs if they don’t want him to.
Why the Tigers Sold on Skubal
Detroit didn’t have a choice. The Tigers sat six games under .500 heading into the weekend after a 6-22 May buried a season that started with real expectations, and Skubal hits free agency this winter.
Letting him walk for a compensation pick would have been the worst outcome. Instead they got Hope, the No. 25 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline. The 21-year-old is hitting .293 in Double-A with 23 homers and 18 steals, and Ryan checks in at No. 68.
Skubal is on a one-year, $32 million deal and is expected to top Yamamoto’s $325 million record for a pitcher. Detroit was never paying that.

Only two franchises have ever won three in a row, and that’s the case against laying this price. FanGraphs had the Dodgers at 26.9% to win it all before the rumors heated up, with the Yankees next at 11%. Adding the best pitcher alive stretches that gap, and it keeps Skubal away from Milwaukee, Atlanta and Tampa Bay, who were all in on him.
+150 is an ugly price to lay on a baseball team in August. It’s going to be uglier once the trade is official and the public piles on, so I’m getting down before it moves again.
Just shop it around a few MLB betting apps first. Books are scattered on LA right now, and a difference of 10 or 15 points on a futures ticket adds up fast.
