The Seattle Mariners are red-hot, but the question is: have they peaked too late? Seattle enters play Saturday winners of five straight, but still trail the New York Yankees by 2games for the AL’s final Wild Card berth.

The Mariners will try to cut into New York’s lead on Saturday (Sept. 25th) when they face the LA Angels in the second game of a three-game set.

Seattle opened as a -155 moneyline favorite, in a game that features a total of 8.5. First pitch is scheduled for 9:07 pm ET at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, with a perfect evening for baseball on deck. The forecast is calling for clear skies, and 63 degree night time temperatures.

Probable Pitchers

The Mariners will give the ball to left-hander Tyler Anderson, who’s fresh off his best start since being acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. Anderson allowed just four hits and one run over 7 innings against division rival Oakland, leading the Mariners to a 4-2 victory.

The 31-year-old tied his season-high with seven strikeouts, and has now yielded only one run in back-to-back outings.

The victory was just his second since joining the Mariners, and it snapped a five start winless drought. Despite the lack of personal wins, Seattle has still earned a victory in six of his 10 outings.

He’s yet to face the Angels this season, but the LA batters he does have history with have not fared well. Current Angel hitters are batting just .100 against him over 16 at-bats, with a .162 OBP.

Los Angeles will counter with Jamie Barria, who’s in the midst of a eight-start winless streak of his own. The 25-year-old is fresh off a loss to Houston, surrendering 10 hits and two runs over 5.1 innings. He’s coughed up more than two earned runs just once in his past five outings, but he hasn’t exactly been eating up innings.

He’s lasted past the 5th frame in only two of his past seven starts, failing to make it past the 3rd inning three times.

J.P Crawford .500 David Fletcher .500

Dylan Moore .000 Max Stassi .000
Tom Murphy .600

Barria hasn’t faced the Mariners this season, but he has been hit hard by Seattle in the past. He’s 2-4 in six career starts versus the M’s, posting a 5.49 ERA.

Mariners vs Angels Pick

Mitch Haniger has been especially tough on Barria, going 5-for-13 against him with a pair of home runs. Haniger is tied for the team lead with 35 homers, and has gone deep five times against LA already this season.

The Mariners lineup, which has been below average all season, seems to have turned the corner lately. They entered play on Friday averaging over five runs per outing this week, and have posted an .804 slugging percentage over the past seven days, which is 15% higher than their 2021 mark.

LA meanwhile, has been reduced to playing the role of spoiler for quite some time now and is having trouble just staying in games. Entering Friday, they’d dropped six of their past seven contests, getting outscored by 22 runs in the process.

Pick: Seattle Marines Moneyline (-155)
