If last night was any indication of what this summer will be like, buckle up. The weather warmed up a little, and the guys unleashed the dongs. Several guys unleashed the dongs multiple times. It was glorious. The thing is, the weather is even warmer today. We’re talking green numbers all over the place in terms of temperature, so we’re all set.
If I had to guess, I’d say more than 40 home runs will be hit tonight. Maybe more. All we have to do is find a few guys that we know for a fact will come through for us. I’ve already found three. Feels easy.

Home Run Pick #1 – Oneil Cruz Gets Loose
Obviously, we need a ball crusher in this thing. It’s Dinger Tuesday, so we want to get a guy that we know is swinging the bat 80+ mph. There aren’t many guys in the league that can even do that, so it’s a short list. Still, it’s important we follow all Dinger Tuesday protocols.
The first name that came to mind was Oneil Cruz. The cherry on top is the fact that he is matched up with Miles Mikolas.
Over the last 15 four-seam fastballs he’s seen, Cruz is averaging 100 mph exit velocity. That doesn’t even seem real, but it is. I looked it up. The man is hitting the crap out of the ball, and the first step in finding a dinger bet is to find a guy that is hitting the crap out of the ball. The next step is finding a ripe target, and Mikolas is that target. Over his last 15 four-seamers thrown that have been hit, more than 1/4th of them have been barrelled. If that happens tonight, Cruz will put one in orbit. Feels right.

Tuesday HR Pick #2 – James Wood Is Wild Too
Now that we have a ball crusher, we should get another one. One thing better than one ball crusher is two ball crushers. Another name that comes to mind when we think “ball crusher” is James Wood. He’s been doing it for a few years now, and it doesn’t look like the crushing will stop any time soon.
In fact, it seems like James Wood is actually getting better at crushing balls.
Tonight, James will see a former Circle of Trust guy, Mitch Keller. We still have love for Mitch, but let’s be honest, he can be had by lefty mashers. The guy gave up 13 dingers to lefties in just 84 innings last season. So far this year, we haven’t seen him get touched yet, but he’s got a 40% hard hit rate to the left side of the plate. It’s only a matter of time. My guess is he gets baptized by James Wood tonight. Feels right.

Tuesday HR Pick #3 – Jordan Walker Can’t Be Stopped
We may as well stick with the ball crusher theme here and go with the ball crushingest guy in the league right now, Jordan Walker. I’ll admit, this feels lazy. The guy hits home runs every game these days, so taking him feels too easy sometimes.
The thing is, why would we not take a guy who barrels two out of every three four-seam fastballs he sees from lefties.
Jordan will have to earn it tonight because he’s going to see Joey Cantillo. Joey doesn’t give up hard contact all that often, but he still gives it up. The last four-seamer he threw was to Bobby Witt Jr., and it came back at him at 105 mph. With the right launch angle, that ball would have gone home with a fan. I’m thinking Jordan Walker will show us the right launch angle tonight. Bring a glove and maybe a helmet if you plan on sitting in the left-field bleachers. Feels right.
