Indians Set Sights on AL Central Lead in Crucial Matchup With Twins
The Cleveland Indians will try to close the gap in the hunt for first place in the AL Central standings when they open a three-game weekend series with the division-leading Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
The Indians have won four in a row to move to within 3.5 games of Minnesota with just over two weeks left on the schedule. The Indians return home after closing out a six-game road trip in dominating fashion, completing the sweep of a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday with a 4-3 win.
The club effectively shut down opponents while going 5-1 on the road, including a series victory in Minnesota last weekend. Cleveland has allowed just 2.33 runs per game over its past six outings, fueling a steady 7-0 run for the “Under” in run totals betting.
Indians are 3.5 games behind the Twins in the AL Central. And right behind Oakland and Tampa in the Wild Card standings !
Buckle up Tribe fans it's gonna be a crazy 15 games to end the regular season.

Despite their recent surge, the Indians have yet to be rewarded at the sportsbooks. The club remains a lengthy +500 longshot on the MLB futures to overtake Minnesota and claim a fourth straight AL Central title. However, the Indians have enjoyed regular success at home against Minnesota, going 9-5 in 14 meetings since August of last year.
Twins vs Indians Probable Starting Pitchers
Jake Odorizzi | September 13 | Aaron Civale |
TBD | September 14 | Mike Clevinger |
Jose Berrios | September 15 | Shane Bieber |
The Twins stumble into Cleveland after dropping two of three to the visiting Washington Nationals, and have now failed to record consecutive wins during a shaky 3-5 run. Minnesota pitchers have continued to struggle to shutdown opposing hitters.
The club surrendered 18 total runs in its final two dates with the Nationals, capped by a 12-6 loss in Thursday’s series finale. Minnesota hitters have also struggled at the plate, scoring just two runs in five of their past eight outings, and powering a 9-1 run for the “Under” on the run totals.
The Minnesota Twins will go as far as their starting pitching will take them. It all starts tonight with Odo pitching his biggest game as a member of the Twins.#GottaBelieve

Despite their recent woes, the Twins have remained steady on the road, going 20-6 in 26 contests away from Target Field since the MLB All-Star Break, and undefeated in eight straight road series. However, the club will likely need a big outing from starter Jake Odorizzi on Friday night to have chance to win this series.
Odorizzi has gone undefeated in five road starts since the beginning of July, and has surrendered just four total earned runs over 22.1 innings in four starts against Cleveland this season, tallying a 2-0 record.
Pick: Indians (-215)
Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals Series Odds

Nationals Aim to Extend NL Wild Card in Home Clash With Braves
The Washington Nationals hope to cement their position atop the NL Wild Card standings on Friday, when they open a three-game series against the visiting Atlanta Braves. The Nationals helped their own cause earlier this week, with a decisive series victory over the Minnesota Twins.
The club has now posted wins in three of four contests to snap a four-game slide, and sits 3.5 games up on both the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs in the hunt for the top NL wild card. Washington hitters have rediscovered their form at the plate during the club’s surge.

With Thursday’s 12-6 victory over Minnesota, the Nationals have now tallied 27 total runs over their past four contests, a run that began with a 9-4 win in Atlanta in the finale of last weekend’s four-game set with the Braves.
And while the Nationals opened September with a series loss to the visiting New York Mets, they have otherwise enjoyed home cooking, going 10-4 in their past 14 at Nationals Park. However, the club has struggled when the Braves come to town, going 2-4 over a pair of series losses this season.
Braves vs Nationals Probable Starting Pitchers
Mike Soroka | September 13 | Max Scherzer |
Mike Foltynewicz | September 14 | Austin Voth |
Max Fried | September 15 | Anibal Sanchez |
The Braves roll into Washington sporting a commanding lead atop the NL East standings, 8.5 games up on the second-place Nationals, but have been plagued by inconsistency this week. Starting with last Sunday’s loss to Washington, Atlanta is just 2-3 over its past five contests after splitting a four-game series in Philadelphia.
Flowers power. Braves catcher provides the team's only score as Atlanta holds on.

The stingy defense that marked a 17-2 run that ended last weekend has been missing in action during their mini-swoon. After surrendering just 2.89 runs per game over their recent 19-game tear, the Braves surrendered 27 total games over their past five outings. The club has also been prone to streakiness on the road, going 12-9 in their past 21 while posting wins in just one of their past four road series.
Pick: Nationals (-145)
