  • Combate Americas 38 goes Friday, May 31st at 9:00 PM ET
  • Can the underdog Pablo Villaseca get it done?
  • Can rising star Alitzel Mariscal stay undefeated?

Combate Americas 38 will be posted up at Coliseo Manuel Bonilla in Lima, Peru this coming Friday. The prelims go on the promotion’s Facebook page and the Combate Americas 38 main card will be broadcast on DAZN.

Combate Americas is a burgeoning promotion that always seems to elicit rave reviews from MMA fans with each show. This event promises to follow in that tradition. You can check out the best bets for Combate Americas 38 below.

Zellhuber Hands Cortez His First L

Combate Americas 38 features two unbeaten Lightweights at the top of the marquee. Daniel Zellhuber and Gian Franco Cortez sit at 7-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Gian Franco Cortez vs Daniel Zellhuber Odds

Fighter Odds
Gian Franco Cortez +330
Daniel Zellhuber -400

*All odds taken 05/27/2019

Franco Cortez has a couple first round, striking-based finishes to his credit. On the other hand, I think Zellhuber has more tools.

The 19 year old phenom aptly known as “Golden Boy” has a variety of choking and striking finishes. I see Zellhuber continuing that trend and finishing Franco Cortez at Combate Americas 38.

Pick: Zellhuber (-400)

Villaseca Bests Campos

Pablo Villaseca has shown aptitude with his hands but has also finished fight by armbar and  various chokes (rear naked, guillotine, and triangle). Consequently, he was matched with a native of Lima, Peru for Combate Americas 38.

Pablo Villaseca vs Luis Marlon Gonzales Campos Odds

Fighter Odds
Pablo Villaseca +124
Luis Marlon Gonzales Campos -144

I give the edge to Villaseca based on strength of schedule. Villaseca has faced off against guys like Josh Thomson in Bellator, albeit in a losing effort, and moments like that galvanize a fighter’s will regardless of the outcome.

Campos has a couple submission W’s and 6 (T)KO stoppages among his four wins. This is no easy task. However, I’m still betting on Villaseca.

Pick: Villaseca (+124)

Mariscal Reigns Supreme

Buzaglo is coming off the first career loss in her MMA career and faces one of the top-ranked pound-for-pound women in Mexico. Mariscal is 2-0 as a pro with both bouts coming under the Combate Americas banner.

Maria Paula Buzaglo vs Alitzel Mariscal Odds

Fighter Odds
Maria Paula Buzaglo +150
Alitzel Mariscal -175

The homegrown star also scored an emphatic KO in her last outing, the first finish of Mariscal’s pro MMA career.

The Peruvian Buzaglo may get emboldened by the partisan crowd. But I have Mariscal at Combate Americas 38.

Pick: Mariscal (-175)

Mendez Wins in Front of Hometown Crowd

Combate Americas 38 marks the first fight of the calendar year for both men in this bout.

Andres Ayala vs Renzo Mendez Odds

Fighter Odds
Andres Ayala +185
Renzo Mendez -220

Mendez is a resident of Lima and is riding a four fight win streak.

Though they have similar records overall, Ayala is conversely 1-3 in his last four bouts. I think the Peruvian pugilist extends the win streak to five.

Pick: Mendez (-220)

Torres Wins on the Road

The Bantamweights will look to keep up a torrid pace in this one. Vera has the home field advantage here but the Peruvian takes on a 9-0 stud in Torres.

Vera vs Matias Torres Odds

Fighter Odds
Rodrigo Vera +116
Eduardo Matias Torres -136

I edge it slightly to Torres who has the advantage of already stepping onto the Combate canvas.

I think some debut jitters could leave Vera slightly off his game. I’m picking Torres at Combate Americas 38.

Pick: Torres (-136)

Pereira da Silva Uses Veteran Savvy to Get Victory

There’s a pronounced disparity in experience with his Combate Americas 38 prize fight. Pereira da Silva has almost three times the amount of pro MMA experience that Moreyra has.

Kevin Moreyra vs Bruno Pereira da Silva Odds

Fighter Odds
Kevin Moreyra +240
Bruno Pereira da Silva -280

The Team Nogueira product is also coming off two wins, both by way of submission. Moreyra was riding a three fight winning streak, but lost his last bout when he made his promotional debut at Combate Americas 18.

I’m going with Bruno Pereira da Silva.

Pick: Pereira da Silva (-280)

Vargas Victorious Over Valenzuela

Local Peruvian favorite Vargas takes on Lima representative Valenzuela. The crowd should get especially raucous for this bout that features two of their fellow countrymen.

Alexander Valenzuela vs Vincente Vargas Odds

Fighter Odds
Alexander Valenzuela +300
Vicente Vargas -365

A big variable lies in Vargas dropping two weight classes from his usual division of Featherweight in a bid to compete at Flyweight. Valenzuela has some Bantamweight experience, but the bulk of his career has been as a Flyweight.

The weight cut might hugely deplete him. I see El Cemento’s Muay Thai approach leading to a Vargas victory.

Pick: Vargas (-365)
