Christian Lee’s Second Title Defense

Christian Lee is aiming to make the sophomore defense of his ONE Championship lightweight title. The Warrior is both the reigning and defending lineal belt-holder as well as the ONE lightweight Grand Prix champion.

Lee is on a five-fight win streak and his last fight saw him halt Iuri Lapicus. The first-round TKO win came in October and marked the inaugural defense of Christian Lee’s lightweight belt.

Out of his three career losses, Lee has only lost to Martin Nguyen (two times to the dominant former featherweight champion) and to Edward Kelly (A loss via disqualification after a suplex was deemed illegal).

The last defeat was that DQ outcome and Lee has been riding that aforementioned winning streak since.

Timofey Nastyukhin’s Crack at the Belt

Timofey Nastyukhin is currently ranked at number three in ONE Championship’s lightweight hierarchy.

He earned a huge statement win when he emphatically finished former Bellator and UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in the ONE Circle.

Nastyukhin is riding back-to-back victories heading into this title bid. His last outing saw him conquer Pieter Buist via unanimous decision in November.

Despite his most recent outing going to the judges’ scorecards, Nastyukhin is generally one to halt the pugilistic proceedings inside the distance.

Lee is the taller fighter and will likely play the rangier game in this fight. Timing his entries forward and using his length to pick his opponent apart with strikes at a distance.

Conversely, Nastyukhin will look to get in close and court a more phone “booth fighting centric” style in the standup. He also has shown proficiency with grounded strikes and that aspect of his game could be a difference-maker in this fight.

While ONE has since amended their soccer kick rules, Timofey Nastyukhin still has a myriad of other grounded strikes to utilize under this Global ruleset. These rules differ from the rules utilized in North America as many new fans found out at ONE on TNT I last week.

Despite his abilities as a finisher and the multiplicity of his skillset, consistency has been a bit of an issue for Nastyukhin. He has yet to put together three straight victories within the ONE Circle.

I think Christian Lee not only makes a successful second defense of his belt but I see him halting Nastyukhin inside the distance on Wednesday night.

Ultimately, I favor the champion besting the challenger when Lee vs Nastyukhin goes down.

Pick: Christian Lee (-250)
