  • The BMF belt is back up for grabs in January 2021 at UFC 257
  • Jorge Masvidal opened as a sizeable favorite over Nate Diaz after winning the first fight by TKO
  • How will the odds change as fight night approaches?

One of the most anticipated fights of 2019 is happening again in Jan. 2021. At UFC 257 (exact date TBD), Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are set to have their rematch.

The two first met in the main event of UFC 244 last November with the BMF title on the line. It was a highly anticipated fight with many torn on who would win.

In the end, it was Masvidal getting his hand raised by doctor stoppage. Although it was a dominant performance from “Gamebred,” many, including him,  wanted to run it back as they didn’t like the ending.

Now, they will be having their rematch and sportsbooks have opened the odds with Masvidal as a sizeable favorite.

Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz 2 Odds

Fighter Odds
Jorge Masvidal -300
Nate Diaz +250

Odds as of Sep. 2, 2020.

Why Are They Having a Rematch?

Jorge Masvidal dominated the first fight; there is no other way to say it. He dropped Diaz and hurt him on multiple occasions.

Just as the fourth round was about to start, the fight was called off. Diaz had nasty cuts above and below his eye and the New York doctors didn’t think it was safe for him to continue.

Immediately, both men called for a rematch. This was for the “Baddest Motherf****r Title” after all and it shouldn’t end by doctor stoppage. Diaz is also known to be better in the fourth and fifth rounds so people wanted to see if he could complete the comeback.

Masvidal ended up getting a title shot against Kamaru Usman as his next fight, losing by decision. After he lost to Usman, rumors of the Diaz rematch started to take shape. This week, Dana White announced the rematch would take place in January 2021 with the BMF title on the line once again.

What Were The Odds For The First Fight?

Last November, Masvidal was hovering around -160 with the comeback on Diaz at +130.  At that price, I was all over Gamebred. I didn’t think Diaz had what it took to beat Masvidal.

How Will the Odds Change?

Opening Masvidal at -300 is a fair line given what happened in the first fight. It’s a steep price to bet on the favorite, but not so steep to prevent two-way betting action.

Nate Diaz is still one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster. At +250, expect public action to come in on him; a lot of his fanbase believed he would’ve stopped Masvidal in the championship rounds. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Diaz around +190 on fight night, which would put Masvidal around -225.

If you are a Diaz backer, I’d recommend betting now at +250. Meanwhile, if you like Masvidal, I’d wait closer until January when all the public money will come in on Diaz.
