Brandon Royval and Lone’er Kavanagh meet with the flyweight title ladder on the line, and the winner jumps a few rungs toward a shot. It’s No. 4 against No. 6, pure chaos against clean, calculated pressure.
Royval is coming off consecutive losses to the top of the division, most recently a first-round knockout by Manel Kape. Kavanagh is the rising Brit, 3-1 in the UFC and fresh off his best win to date over Brandon Moreno.
Here’s my Royval vs. Kavanagh picks, prediction and odds.
Royval vs. Kavanagh Picks
- Best Bet: Lone’er Kavanagh by Decision (+125 at BetMGM)
- Value Play: Lone’er Kavanagh in Round 3 (+1000 at BetMGM)
Laying -225 on anyone in a flyweight fight is a quick way to bleed value. Strip the vig out of BetMGM’s line, and it implies a 66.4% win chance for Kavanagh against 33.6% for Royval. I’d rather find that same side in the method of victory market.
Kavanagh handles chaotic opponents by controlling position and picking his shots. His win here should come from banking rounds, not chasing a reckless finish against a submission artist like Royval. That points me straight at his decision prop.
The decision at +125 is the play I trust most. All of Kavanagh’s wins have come on the cards, and he just went a hard five rounds with Moreno on short notice at elevation in Mexico City. The Round 3 sprinkle is a smaller swing if his late pressure finally cracks a durable opponent.
Royval vs. Kavanagh Prediction
These two are at opposite points on the career curve. Kavanagh is 27 and climbing, coming off his best performance yet. Royval is 33 and has dropped two straight, both to the division’s elite.
Royval’s durability is the worry. He’s been knocked down repeatedly in the UFC and was stopped clean by Kape last time out. Without reliable takedowns to shift the fight, he can get stuck in a standup battle he no longer wins.
His best route runs through the clinch and the mat. Royval is the longer man and can tie Kavanagh up along the fence to take away that kickboxing at range. If he threatens submissions in scrambles, he can steal the rhythm and make this ugly.
I just don’t think he keeps it up for 15 minutes. Kavanagh should pick his spots, win the striking exchanges, and bank enough rounds for a clear decision.
Royval vs. Kavanagh Tale of the Tape
Kavanagh owns the cleaner striking, landing 48.9% to Royval’s 41.5%. That gap comes down to approach. Royval fights at a chaotic volume, throwing 510 significant strikes against Moreno alone, while Kavanagh does more with less and eats less coming back.
The grappling cuts both ways. Royval converts takedowns at an elite 75% and hunts submissions in scrambles. Kavanagh prefers to hold position, logging 7:32 of control across his tracked bouts, and that top game can bleed Royval’s output dry.
Royval vs. Kavanagh Odds
Kavanagh opened as a clear favorite, and the number has held at -225. Paying that straight up chews up too much, but the round market gets you the same side at a friendlier price.
Round Betting Odds
Kavanagh on points at +125 mirrors his decision prop and reads as the cleanest value on the board. If you want a bigger number, his Round 3 at +1000 cashes if that late pressure finally cracks a tough out.
