Washington Wizards at Golden State Warriors (-13, 227 o/u)
The Golden State Warriors (66-7, 35-0 Home) can move another step closer to history tonight when they host the Washington Wizards (36-37, 17-18 Away) at ORACLE Arena (10:30 PM Eastern).
The Warriors need to win six of their final nine games to tie the Chicago Bulls’ single-season record of 72 wins; seven Ws would establish Golden State as the new gold standard. (They already own the NBA record for consecutive home wins with 53.)
Against Washington, they’ll jump on the court as double-digit favorites. Since losing to the Spurs last week, the Warriors have won four straight, but covered the spread just once in their last five.
Steph Curry is poised to win his second straight NBA MVP award, but fellow “Splash Brother” Klay Thompson is the man to watch tonight. The shooting guard is coming off back-to-back 40-point performances in wins over Dallas and Philadelphia.
Tonight, Thompson will be facing a streaky Washington team. The Wizards recently ended a five-game slide by winning five in a row. The win-streak came to an abrupt halt with back-to-back losses to the Hawks and T-Wolves, but they got back in the win column last time out with a convincing 101-88 win over the Lakers. Another win tonight would put them back at . 500. More importantly, it would inch them closer to the final playoff spot in the East: the Wizards currently trail the eighth-place Pistons by 2.5 games.
The Wizards have struggled against Western Conference opponents this season, posting a 10-16 record. They were dominated at home by Golden State, 134-121, back in February, failing to cover the spread as ten-point home dogs. That was just the latest instance of Golden State’s dominance over this team; the Warriors are 9-1 SU in the last ten head-to-head and, and 5-1 ATS in the last six.
