Portland Looking Good

No one expected much out of the Blazers in 2022-23 and although it’s still early, this team is turning heads in the West. Chauncey Billups’ group is currently third in the conference and just beat the Suns last Friday without Dame courtesy of a Jerami Grant game-winner.

On Monday, Lillard was back on the floor after a four-game absence due to a calf strain and he made his mark. The veteran dropped 19 points and dished out six dimes, but it was actually two others who shined. Anfernee Simons balled out for 25, while Grant also had 23. The Blazers looked to be out of his contest until a massive fourth quarter where they outscored Miami 37-26.

Portland closed out this game in fine fashion, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the field in the final six minutes. The rotation shot a sharp 43% from downtown and really clutched up when it mattered. After beating a solid Heat squad, the Blazers will undoubtedly be confident on Wednesday against the Hornets who are in awful shape at the moment.

Nothing Going Right in Charlotte

Absolutely nothing is going right for the Hornets. Gordon Hayward and LaMelo Ball continue to be sidelined because of injuries and that’s certainly hurt them. Monday was actually a clear-cut opportunity to finally win a game with the Wizards missing Beal, but Charlotte still couldn’t get it done.

There were 14 lead changes in this matchup and while Steve Clifford’s team was better in certain areas, they allowed Washington to shoot 52.5% from the field. Kyle Kuzma killed the Hornets in the final period, scoring nine of his 20 points. Offensively, the Hornets got a 25-point night from PJ Washington, while Kelly Oubre put up 20. Terry Rozier added 19 points, too. The bench unit scored just 27 points, however.

To make matters worse for Charlotte, they’ve managed to win just one of their five games at home. When Ball and Hayward return it will help a ton, but the Hornets just need to lock down defensively. They allowed 62 points in the second half alone on Monday.

Blazers vs Hornets Prediction

Portland is looking far too good to bet against and has won four of five on the road. The Blazers should comfortably cover against the Hornets.

Pick: Blazers -5 (-106)
