  • The Denver Nuggets look to take a series lead over Minnesota Tuesday night after dropping the first 2 games of the series.
  • Neither Minnesota nor Denver have won a game at home yet in this playoff series

They always say a series hasn’t started until the… home team wins a game? The Denver Nuggets (57-25, 33-8 home, 42-47-2 ATS) return to Ball Arena Tuesday night for their Game 5 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves (56-26, 26-15 away, 46-42-2 ATS), looking to be the first team in this series to win a home matchup. Of note, Jamal Murray is considered a game time decision for Tuesday’s matchup.

The best-of-seven series is knotted up at 2-2 with a 7:30 PT tip on TNT.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets Prediction

Denver really struggled to score in Games 1 and 2, but that was far from the case when the series shifted to Minneapolis. Nikola Jokic continued to be a monster on the offensive end, very nearly dropping a triple double in Game 3 before posting his best game of the series yet in Game 4. Jokic capped an impressive Game 4 with 35 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists on 57.7% shooting.

Jokic and Jamal Murray are constants for the Nuggets, but Denver also saw more from Aaron Gordon. The power forward out of Arizona finished with a series high 27 points while adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists in a 115-107 win.

It’s sad to say this about a team with the Defensive Player of the Year, but the Nuggets have all the momentum in the world right now heading into Game 5. Even for as well as he’s done, it still feels like we haven’t seen the best of Jamal Murray this series, but the it feels like Anthony Edwards would have to drop 40 or more for the Timberwolves to stay in this one.

And ladies and gentlemen, a home team is more likely than not to eventually grab a win in this series. Now seems to be the best time for it with the Nuggets surging and the T-Wolves looking for answers with Gobert struggling.

DEN vs MIN Game 5 pick: Nuggets -4.5

The spread for Denver vs. Minnesota hovers around 4 points on most sportsbooks, coming in at 4 on DraftKings and, as you can see above, 4.5 on BetMGM. The Nuggets are favored to take a 3-2 series lead at -190 on the moneyline.

As mentioned briefly in the section above, Rudy Gobert’s play is going to be a major factor to watch Tuesday night. Games 1 and 2 of this series would have been under the set total of 206.5, and Gobert did not see action in Game 2. The DPOY was a liability on both ends in Games 3 and 4, which is part of the reason why we saw the totals at 207 and 222, respectively. It’s not often that a single player can have as much of an impact on the point total, but the trends are apparent, folks.

If Gobert simply doesn’t show yet again on defense, it’ll have to be Anthony Edwards with a herculean effort on the offensive side to secure a win Tuesday night in the Mile High City. The budding superstar out of Georgia has certainly risen to the challenge so far, dropping 43 in a Game 1 win and 44 in a respectable Game 4 loss where he had little to no help from his star companions. Mostly looking at you, KAT.

Player Prop odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

Nikola Jokic and Anthony Edwards tie for the highest point total in tonight’s matchup at 29.5. Jokic also sits at the top of the rebounding and assist props.

The pressure feels like it is very on for Edwards in particular. He’s been the superstar for the Wolves this series, and watching him take that next step has been a treat to watch. And it’s hard to bet against him stumbling now.

Player prop picks:

  • Edwards over 29.5 Points (-105)
  • Jokic over 12.5 Rebounds (-108)
  • Gobert under 10.5 Points (-105)
