We’re in the thick of what’s already a topsy-turvy second round of the NBA Playoffs, but the news cycle keeps running.

Today, DraftKings released the odds for what team Giannis Antetokounmpo will play for to start next season.

While the Bucks are the chalk to retain him (with fear of flunking the trade, also now and forever known as “pulling a Nico” likely the biggest factor), there should be no shortage of teams throwing themselves at the revolutionary big man.

A top-three player in the league in any metric, who’s smack-dab in the middle of his prime and always in the mix in the NBA MVP odds, Milwaukee should be fielding a ton of calls. Do this right, and they’re set for the rebuild and a promising future.

Let’s run down the odds of every team, and share our best bets for where the Greek Freak will end up.

Bucks Going Nowhere Fast

Milwaukee is a mess. Aside from Giannis as an apex athlete in the league, this roster is old, bereft of talent, and barren of assets and will be nowhere near the top half of the NBA Championship odds.

Dame Lillard tearing his Achilles in Round 1 should be the nail in the coffin. His contract will hang like an anchor on the Bucks’ neck trying to stay afloat while 35% of its cap is tied to him for the next two years.

Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis are free agents, and Milwaukee doesn’t own a first-round draft pick until 2031.

Now try putting together a title roster consisting of Giannis, Anchor Dame and Kyle Kuzma, a dud of a trade pickup at the deadline. There are no outs.

Unless Milwaukee can see a plan to be competitive and not let Giannis’ prime rot away, the teardown has to be here. As mentioned, if he’s on the Bucks’ roster by 2025-26 tip, it’s because the Bucks are crippled with fear and will think no action is better than screwing up the action.

Favorites to Land Giannis

If they do have the stones and do right by their franchise’s most beloved son (yes, over Lew Alcindor), there are deals to be made.

The Warriors can offer a bevy of young players centered around Jonathan Kuminga and basically everyone but Steph, Jimmy and Draymond. It’s a grab-bag of 20-somethings in Houston, with basically Amen Thompson the only untouchable. Both can sweeten the pot with draft picks. Not a lot of value though, as these teams are under +1000 odds.

The Spurs can peddle current ROTY Stephen Castle and other goodies and draft assets, while the Lakers can build a package around Austin Reaves and at least a couple of firsts.

But if the Bucks really want young players and a draft chest of assets, they should really be looking at the OKC Thunder. Sam Presti could legit offer seven first rounders, plus a young player of Milwaukee’s choice not named SGA. That means all that draft stuff plus Chet Holmgren or Jalen Williams, fresh off his first all-star appearance.

Giannis with SGA, with either Chet or Jalen, plus Lu Dort and Cason Wallace to close games, with Isaiah Joe or Alex Caruso in whether it’s shooting or defense needed? Holy Lord.

Favorite Pick:

OKC Thunder (+1600)

Longshots to Consider

There are three teams screaming to make a move here. One just emerged after Game 2 of the Indiana-Cleveland series. If the Cavaliers collapse, Giannis is the upgrade to championship or bust mode. It would cost them Evan Mobley, and maybe even Darius Garland, plus a bevy of draft capital, but this team is built for a title now.

Another long, athletic star isn’t exactly what the Orlando Magic need, but goodness: a Paolo Banchero-Giannis frontcourt would be devastating, and the Magic would just need to spend the rest of the summer dotting the roster with shooters, and maybe a high-end point guard.

Finally, could Philly find a way to convince the Bucks to take Joel Embiid off them in a swap? I don’t know if the Sixers have the other assets to swing it, but if Embiid is healthy, he’s the only current MVP-level talent out there in a deal (as we don’t know what those draft picks turn out to be).

Giannis just slides into the Embiid spot and should be contender ready with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain (though Milwaukee might want him), and if they could coax a rejuvenation year out of Paul George.

Longshot Pick:

  • Magic (+5000)
