With Saturday’s thrilling 113-112 win over the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors moved back to .500 for the season and half a game ahead of the Jazz for the final postseason berth in West portion of the NBA playoff bracket.

Warriors Rebound From Heartbreaking Loss in Atlanta

Twelves of Golden State’s losses this season have either come in OT or by four points or fewer. That trend continued on Feb. 3 in Atlanta when the Dubs dropped a 141-134 OT decision to the Hawks. But their latest heartbreaking loss seems to have been the catalyst for a turnaround. Golden State is 4-0 since with three double-digit road wins (109-98 at Brooklyn, 131-109 at Philadelphia, and 131-109 at Indiana) plus a last-second home win over Phoenix, sealed by this Steph Curry three.

As has been the case for the past decade-plus, Curry has been the biggest reason for Golden State’s success. The two-time MVP  is averaging 45 points over the past five games and is shooting exactly 50% from beyond the arc. Curry hasn’t ascended into the top-ten of the NBA MVP odds yet this season, but expect that to change if he maintains his recent form.

Secondary scoring from Jonathan Kuminga (15.6 PPG, 4.7 RPG) has been massive.  The 6’7 forward is averaging 21.3 PPG during Golden State’s win streak, making up for the fact that Klay Thompson hasn’t reached the 20-point plateau since Jan. 27.

Jazz Have Two-Game Win Streak Broken at Phoenix

Losers of six of eight from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, the Jazz busted out of that slump in a big way with a pair of home wins over NBA title contenders: 123-108 vs Milwaukee on Feb. 4 and 124-117 vs OKC on Feb. 6.

That mini two-game win streak ended last time out, though, with a 129-115 setback at Phoenix.  The Suns took a 12-point lead after the first quarter and the Jazz were never closer than three in the final 36 minutes, continuing a stark home/road discrepancy for the Jazz, who are 17-7 at home and 9-20 on the road.

Concerningly, Utah needed to overcome double-digit halftime deficits in the wins over Milwaukee and OKC, capitalizing on tired teams playing at altitude.

Utah continues to rank in the bottom half of the league in both Offensive Rating (115.7, 16th) and Defensive Rating (118.1, 24th), and their -2.1 point differential is only 12th in the West.

Curry, who’s scored at least 30 points in six of his past nine games (including a 60-point outburst in an OT loss to Atlanta on Feb. 3), is listed with the highest point total at 29.5 in the NBA player props for Golden State vs Utah. Markkanen is the highest of the Jazz players listed at 23.5, followed by Sexton at 19.5.

Warriors vs Jazz Prediction

This might be one of the last chances bettors have to buy low(ish) on the Warriors. Their play over the last four games is indicative of a corner turned. If Curry continues to play like a legitimate NBA MVP contender and Draymond Green can keep himself on the court, the Warriors still have the pieces to make a playoff run (notwithstanding the very real declines of Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins).

Utah has been excellent at home most of the season, but their play is noticeably slipping of late. This is a one-off road game for the Warriors, so they won’t be bringing tired legs to the Delta Center like the Bucks and Thunder.
