We’ll have a cross-conference showdown on Tuesday, March 16th when the Boston Celtics welcome the Utah Jazz to town, tip-off 7:30 PM EST.
The C’s are 1-1 since the break, losing to the star-studded Brooklyn Nets then beating the shorthanded Houston Rockets two nights ago. Utah meanwhile, who hold the best record in the association at 28-10, are just 5-5 in their last 10 games and are coming off a loss to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
This will be the second meeting between these two teams in 2020-21, with the Jazz coming out victorious back on February 9th by a score of 122-108.

Can Utah Bounce Back?
It’s been unlike the Jazz to lose at all lately but they came up against a Warriors squad who were motivated for a victory after going on a four-game winless streak. What really killed Quin Snyder’s team on Monday night was Stephen Curry, who went 6-for-9 from downtown, and collected 32 points. They also struggled to contain Andrew Wiggins – who went off for 28.

Defensively, it was a night to forget for Utah. Golden State’s entire rotation was cooking while outscoring the Jazz 28-17 in the final seven and a half minutes of the fourth quarter. Utah is allowing just 108.2 points per night this season, which is fifth-best in the NBA.
But in comparison, on Monday, they allowed 131 and during their last three games, opponents are compiling 120.3 points a game against them, which puts the Jazz 25th in the association during that span.
On a more positive note though, the offense was fairly impressive, especially Rudy Gobert. The Frenchman collected 24 points and a franchise-record 28 rebounds in the loss. Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley, and Jordan Clarkson all had 20+ point performances as well. But down the stretch, they failed to get buckets when needed, which did ultimately hurt them in the end.

Utah hasn’t played great on the road this season as well, going just 12-8. Their next four contests are away, so this should be a real test for the squad. Nevertheless, they’ve still turned some heads and continue to be a favorite to make some noise in the playoffs.
Boston Feeling Revived
For once, the Celtics are actually at full strength. It’s no secret they’re oozing with talent, it was just a matter of everyone being healthy. With Marcus Smart back in the fold, the hope is that Boston can turn things around after a forgettable first-half.
The C’s have won five of their last six games while beating Houston over the weekend. They shot an impressive 49% from three-point range while out-rebounding the Rockets 55-37. It wasn’t the toughest of opponents considering H-Town is practically missing their entire roster, but it was a chance for the Celtics’ core to find some familiarity with each other.

Having Smart back is huge. His presence on both ends of the court is irreplaceable, especially defensively. He’s a very important piece to the success of Brad Steven’s team as they look to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
Tuesday will certainly be a tough task though. Utah will be coming out with a vengeance after a rough outing and it will be important for Boston to come firing out of the gates and set the tone.

They’re also terrific playing at the TD Garden this season, compiling a 12-5 record. The question is, can their 21st ranked defense contain the Jazz’s top guns and compete with the likes of Gobert on the glass?
Best Bet
The Celtics head into this one as underdogs, but they are 11-6 ATS on home court this year. Utah meanwhile, are 11-9 ATS on the road.
Personally, I think you’re going to see a statement win here for the Jazz. After such a disappointing performance against the Warriors, especially defensively, the squad will show out on Tuesday and cover the spread. Expect them to cut down the turnovers, which have been a problem as of late, and play a fundamentally sound game across the board. Also, both teams have hit the over in three of their last four appearances as well. There is value.
- Pick: Utah Jazz -4.5 (-110), Over 228 Points (-110)
