Three weeks into the NBA season, it’s safe to say neither the New York Knicks (4-5, 2-4 away) nor Philadelphia 76ers (2-7, 1-3 home) – two playoff teams from last season – are where they thought they would be. As they get set to square off at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night (7:40 pm ET), oddsmakers have established the visitors as slight favorites in the Knicks vs 76ers odds.

As Embiid returns to the lineup, the hard-luck Sixers lose leading scorer Tyrese Maxey, who suffered a hamstring strain last Wednesday. The 76ers are 1-1 in their last two games while missing both Maxey and Embiid, losing to the Lakers on the road (116-106) and beating the Hornets (107-105 OT) for their first home win of the season.

The Knicks defeated the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs last year, four games to two. After finishing a disappointing seventh in the East, Philadelphia had to go the Play-In Tournament route just to reach the first round.

The Knicks underwent serious lineup alterations in the offseason, parting ways with oft-injured Julius Randle and Donte Divincenzo while bringing in Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, the latter of whom joins fellow Villanova products Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart on the 2024-25 Knicks.

Early returns haven’t been great. The Knicks are just 4-5, have only won back-to-back games once, and have yet to beat a team that’s over .500.

The NBA player props for Tuesday list Jalen Brunson with a game-high point total of 25.5. With leading-scorer Tyrese Maxey (27.6 PPG) out, Joel Embiid has the highest total for the Sixers at 24.5. Oddsmakers clearly expect limited minutes from the Philly center, who averaged what would have been an NBA-best 34.7 PPG last year, but he didn’t qualify for the leaderboards due to missing 43 games.

NY Knicks vs PHI 76ers Predictions

With Embiid’s health and minutes a questions, oddsmakers are taking a very pessimistic approach to the Sixers on Tuesday. But the Knicks haven’t done nearly enough with their new roster to deserve to be three-point road chalk at the Sixers with Embiid in the lineup. Paul George, who’s only played four games for Philly this year, looked nearly 100% last time out, posting a line of 15 points, nine assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the OT victory against Charlotte. He’s more than capable of taking on an increased scoring load with Maxey out.

The Sixers went 54-28 at home over the last two seasons, and this is a great spot to back them at sizable plus-money as home underdogs.
