  • LeBron James is set to begin his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers
  • The Lakers added superstar Anthony Davis, who could end up in the MVP conversation this year
  • Oddsmakers released four props for LeBron’s 2019-20 season; we explore where the value is with each bet

LeBron James is healthy and set to star for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

How good will the King be? You can bet on just that thanks to a series of prop bets available. Let’s break them down one by one and figure out where the value is.

LeBron James Points Per Game Over/Under Odds

Total Odds
Over 25.5 PPG -120
Under 25.5 PPG -120

*Odds taken 10/17.

In his first year with the Lakers, things didn’t go to plan. James ended up getting injured and ultimately the franchise missed the playoffs yet again. Those negative storylines seem to have clouded that fact that, individually, James actually had a great season.

He averaged 27.4 points per game, which was actually slightly higher than his 27.2 career average. Yes, Anthony Davis is in town now and he’ll steal some looks on offense, but I’m still confident betting James to clear this benchmark.

Pick: Over 25.5 PPG (-120)

LeBron James Rebounds Per Game Over/Under Odds

Total Odds
Over 7.5 RPG -120
Under 7.5 RPG -120

*Odds taken 10/17.

This is another conservative line set by the oddsmakers when you factor in both LeBron’s career total of 7.4 boards per game and his 8.5 RPG average from a year ago. That said, this is a trap, so don’t fall into it.

While I believe there are enough points available for James to go over in the previous prop, here is where the addition of Davis hurts big time. The former Pelican averaged 12 rebounds per game last season and with him playing Pac-Man in the paint, James is destined to go under here.

One other thing to consider is that LeBron’s tendency to try to conserve energy has only grown as he’s aged. A good spot for him to do it is in the paint on the defensive end. He can let his new young center put in the dirty work, while helping the Lakers win ball games with his IQ and offensive gifts instead.

Pick: Under 7.5 RPG (-120)

LeBron James Assists Per Game Over/Under Odds

Total Odds
Over 7.5 APG -120
Under 7.5 APG -120

*Odds taken 10/17.

Let me be clear, I’m more confident of James hitting the over with this bet than any other prop available this basketball campaign. James averaged 8.3 assists per game last year and needed to introduce himself to teammates during timeouts. Now that may be a slight overstatement, but the fact his supporting cast wasn’t great is no secret.

This year he is being paired with possibly his most talented teammate ever. That’s a lofty claim considering he spent time running with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. The reality is, not only is Davis potentially better than all of them, he provides the opportunity for easy assists based on his style of play.

If you’re only picking one prop, make it this one.

PICK: Over 7.5 APG (-120)

LeBron James Triple Doubles Over/Under Odds

Total Odds
Over 7.5 -120
Under 7.5 -120

*Odds taken 10/17.

This appears to be a conservative line at first glance. James had eight triple-doubles in only 55 games with the Lakers last year and had 18 the season prior. Assuming his averages are close to his career totals, he’ll go over. But that ignores one major consideration: the dreaded load management.

While the other three props are all averages that can’t be hurt by an injury or rest, this one can be. Just how many games will James play this year? With the much younger Davis able to shoulder the load, I expect rest to be a common theme in the regular season.

Fade LeBron going over the number here, if only because he won’t play enough to hit it.

PICK: Under 7.5 Triple Doubles (-120)
