- Dallas is laying 1.5-points in the Mavericks vs Nets odds ahead of Thursday’s matchup in Brooklyn
- Brooklyn has dropped three of its first four games this season
- The latest Mavericks vs Nets odds are listed below, along with a betting prediction
The Mavericks (1-2, 0-2 away) head to Brooklyn on Thursday in search of their first road victory of the season. Luka Doncic and co. are off to a disappointing start, but the same can be said for the Nets (1-3, 1-1 home).
Fresh off a defeat to the Bucks on Wednesday, Brooklyn sits at 1-3, despite a roster loaded with star power. Despite the talent, oddsmakers are bearish on this Nets team, as they opened Dallas as road favorites in the NBA odds.

Dallas Mavericks Betting Analysis
After a hard fought loss to open the season in Phoenix, Dallas rebounded by blowing out Memphis at home. They trounced Ja Morant’s Grizzlies by 41 points, and were expected to claim another convincing victory on Tuesday in New Orleans.
Luka Doncic this season:
32 Points, 10 Assists, 7 Rebounds
35 Points, 6 Assists, 9 Rebounds
37 Points, 11 Assists, 7 Rebounds pic.twitter.com/sKtmMN6PvE— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) October 26, 2022
However, Dallas came up short 113-111 to the undermanned Pelicans, wasting a 37 point performance from Doncic. The Mavericks couldn’t capitalize with both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram out of the lineup, arguably New Orleans’ two best players. They allowed the Pelicans to shoot 58% from the field, and 44% from three.
Opponents have been extremely efficient against Dallas this season, burying 49% of their field goal attempts. Given that number, you’d expect the Mavs to be ranked near the bottom in scoring defense but that isn’t the case. Only four teams allow fewer points per game than Dallas thanks to their rebounding prowess. They allow a league-low six offensive rebounds per game, eliminating second chance opportunities.

Both Doncic and center Christian Wood average nine boards per night, and the two combined for 20 rebounds against the Pels. The team shot 50% from the field, a number that would have been a lot higher if not for Doncic’s 2-of-13 stat line from three.
The Mavs enter Thursday rank eighth in points per game, sixth in field goal percentage, and 10th in three-point efficiency.
Injury wise, forward Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable for the contest against the Nets, after sitting out Tuesday’s action with right foot soreness.
Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis
The Nets remain a top-five NBA Championship odds contender, but it’s hard to imagine anyone rushing to bet them to win the title.
Brooklyn entered play on Wednesday boasting the league’s fourth worst scoring defense. No team is worse at defending the three so far, while only two teams yield a higher field goal percentage. They’ve allowed 130+ points multiple times already, and the only squad they held below 110 points was the Raptors who rank 22nd in offensive rating.
At the other end of the court they can score with anybody thanks to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. KD, a top-six NBA MVP odds contender, is averaging 32 points a night, while Kyrie isn’t far behind at 27 points per contest. The problem is, the offensive cupboard is bare behind them.

Ben Simmons has been a colossal disappointment. He’s averaging a career-low 5.7 points per game in his first full season in Brooklyn, and under seven rebounds for the first time in his five-year career.
Aside from Durant and Irving, Nic Claxton is the only other Net who averages double-digit points per game. He can’t be counted on a nightly basis however, as evident by his 3 total points versus the Bucks.
On the injury front, Brooklyn is expected to be without guard Seth Curry (ankle) and possibly forward Markieff Morris (personal) as well.
Mavericks vs Nets Pick
The second half of back-to-backs have not treated the Nets kindly. Since the start of the 2021-22 season, they’ve won only three times in 14 contests with no rest.
Being fresh off a hard fought defeat against the Bucks certainly won’t help. Milwaukee plays a bruising style of basketball, and now the Nets need to prepare for another physical battle with the Mavs.
Brooklyn’s inability or unwillingness to play defense is a major concern. The Mavs have the firepower to put up a big number on the Nets, while their ability to reduce second chance points will be key to keeping Brooklyn’s offense in check.
