LAC, which is a Western Conference-best 20-5 at home this year, is listed as a 4.5-point favorite in the T-Wolves vs Clippers odds.

As the NBA playoff bracket currently stands, the T-Wolves hold the #1 seed in the West with the Clippers (and Thunder) just half a game behind, meaning LAC would leapfrog Minnesota for the #1 seed with a win tonight.

Clippers Look Flat After Road Trip

The Clippers surged up the standings on their recent road trip, going 6-1 including a dominant 115-96 win at the NBA-leading Boston Celtics. But in two games since returning, the team has looked out of sorts. LA dropped a 117-106 decision to the New Orleans Pelicans in their first game back at home, and then edged past the NBA-worst Detroit Pistons 112-106 as 16.5-point favorites.

Notwithstanding subpar play in their last two games, the Clippers remain fifth in the NBA in Net Rating (+5.9), thanks largely to their 119.8 Offensive Rating, which is third-best in the league.

Just 17-12 entering the Christmas break, the Clippers are 18-4 since. After a pedestrian start to the season, Kawhi Leonard (24.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 3.8 APG, 23.9 PER) has returned to the form that won him two championships. With James Harden (17.3 PPG, 8.5 APG) adapting seamlessly to his role as distributor and three-point specialist (42.2 3P%), the Clippers’ offense has taken a giant leap compared to last year, when they posted an O-Rating of just 114.0 (17th).

The Clippers have no injuries to report and will be at full strength in Monday’s NBA lineups.

Timberwolves Play Dipping (Slightly)

With Anthony Edwards (25.9 PPG, 5.2 APG, 39.3 3P%) taking his game to new heights (his 19.1 PER is up from his career-best of 17.4 last season), the T-Wolves now pair a respectable offense with a league-best defense anchored by Rudy Gobert. Minnesota’s play of late has only been so-so, however, which is why its lead atop the West has dwindled to half a game.

The Timberwolves are just 6-5 in their last 11 games, including puzzling losses to the 11-41 Charlotte Hornets and 10-43 San Antonio Spurs. They are 1-1 on their current five-game road trip, starting with a 129-123 OT loss to the Chicago Bulls before an impressive 129-105 win over the Milwaukee Bucks last time out.

Edwards had a team-high 26 points in 36 minutes on 9-of-20 shooting from the field while Gobert added 16 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

Minnesota is a rock-solid 17-11 away from home this year, but has struggled to beat top teams on the road. The T-Wolves are 2-5 straight-up against teams that reside in the top-five of their conference. That number had been 0-5 before a win at OKC on Jan. 29, plus the victory at Milwaukee last Thursday.

Player props from the DraftKings app

The NBA player props for MIN vs LAC is littered with big numbers. Edwards (26.5) has the highest point total, while Leonard (25.5), Towns (22.5) and George (20.5) are all over 20 as well.

Gobert’s rebound total of 12.5 is five higher than any other player on the board.

Timberwolves vs Clippers Prediction

The Clippers have played down to their competition the last couple games. Don’t expect that to continue tonight with first place in the West on the line. Both teams know exactly how important home-court advantage will be come the postseason, and with head-to-head results the first (effective) tiebreaker, the Clippers will be desperate to even the season series at 1-1.

This should have a playoff atmosphere and LAC’s huge home-court edge will be the difference.
