The Denver Nuggets (2-2) visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) at Target Center on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 9:30 pm ET. This matchup brings back memories of last season’s intense Western Conference semifinals, where the Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets in seven games. Minnesota took that series with a memorable Game 7 performance on their home floor.

Both teams are looking to find their groove after rocky starts to the 2024-25 season. Denver rides in on two straight overtime wins, while Minnesota is trying to bounce back from a tough home loss to Dallas. The early-season struggles haven’t dampened expectations for either squad in what’s shaping up to be a competitive Western Conference.

Here is a look at our Nuggets vs Timberwolves prediction for Friday night basketball.

Jokic has been nothing short of spectacular to start the year. The reigning MVP is putting up monster numbers – 31.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. He’s given Minnesota headaches before, dominating their playoff series last year with three triple-doubles. He’s currently +240 in the NBA MVP odds to win the award for a third straight season.

With Murray and Porter Jr. getting healthier, Denver’s offense looks ready to explode. They’ve had valuable rest after those back-to-back overtime games. Murray, in particular, looks to be getting on track after a 24-point outing vs Brooklyn.

Minnesota is still adjusting after the KAT trade. Randle and DiVincenzo have shown promise, but the defense has slipped to 14th in efficiency. That’s a notable drop for a team that ranked in the top-10 last season. Head coach Chris Finch has emphasized the need for better communication on that end of the floor.

The spotlight’s on Minnesota after their playoff success. A primetime showdown against the team they knocked out is the perfect statement game. But that pressure could work against them. The Wolves have struggled in similar spotlight games this season, going 0-2 against playoff teams from last year.

I’m backing Denver here. The 4.5-point spread feels generous for a team with championship DNA. The total of 219.5 looks a touch high, considering both teams’ slow pace to start the year. In a big-game atmosphere, the Nuggets’ experience and proven track record in close games should shine through.

The Joker headlines tonight’s prop market after his scorching start. His points total sits at 29.5 – easily the highest mark on the board. For Minnesota, Edwards (27.5) and Randle (22.5) lead the way. Ant just dropped 37 in his last outing and always shows up for marquee matchups. His matchup with Murray could be the key to this entire game.

Here are my favorite props for tonight:

  • Jokic over 12.5 rebounds (-122): He’s cleared this mark in 3 of 4 games and just grabbed 18 against Brooklyn. Minnesota’s rebounding issues should continue, especially with their new-look frontcourt still finding chemistry.
  • Randle over 9.5 rebounds (+100): Even money looks juicy here. Denver gave up the 4th most rebounds last season, and Randle’s been active on the glass since joining Minnesota.
  • Russell Westbrook over 15.5 points (-115): Russ just popped for 22 off the bench. With Denver’s starters feeling those OT minutes, he could see extra run tonight against Minnesota’s second unit.

Best Denver Nuggets vs Minnesota Timberwolves Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Denver Nuggets +4.5 (-115) +152 Under 219.5 (-110)
Minnesota Timberwolves -4.5 (-105) -180 Over 219.5 (-110)

Denver enters as 4.5-point road dogs at +152 on the ML. Those odds give them about a 40% shot at the outright win. Minnesota’s -180 price suggests they win this about 64% of the time. The line opened at Minnesota -3.5 and has seen steady action on the home side.

The total sits at 219.5 – on the lower end for Friday’s slate. That makes sense given both teams’ methodical pace, both last year and early this season. The under is 3-1 in Denver’s games this year and 2-2 in Minnesota’s contests.
