Odds & Props Released for NBA H-O-R-S-E Competition

The NBA continues to be inventive to bring fans live basketball action. The 2K20 tournament is underway, and they are already working on another idea.

Combined with ESPN, the league is looking to televise a H-O-R-S-E competition between the league’s biggest stars.

A remote game of H-O-R-S-E won’t be for everyone, but it’s the closest thing any NBA fans are getting to live basketball in the next few weeks. Details of contestants and schedule are yet to be revealed.

Each division is given the same price at the moment, which will ultimately change once we’ve got a better idea of the contenders. Adrian Wojnarowski said the discussions involve ‘several high-profile players’, and there are a few names that immediately come to mind. Wouldn’t it be great to see Steph Curry and James Harden go head-to-head?

Curry and Harden would represent the Pacific and Southwest here. It’s obviously a hypothetical that either would be involved, but they would surely be the two favorites and they fit the high-profile tag. It doesn’t feel like the sort of thing Harden would be keen to get involved with, and perhaps Curry will leave it to some of the younger players.

Luka Doncic ticks the younger player box, as does Ja Morant. Both would represent the Southwest Division. Doncic has produced his fair share of outlandish shots in his young NBA career, and Morant is capable of pretty much anything.

It likely comes down to the Pacific and Southwest as it stands. There’s talent aplenty from the aforementioned quartet, and others like Devin Booker, Paul George and Buddy Hield would all be contenders.

The first instinct is to back the shorter players. Under 6 feet 5.75 inches rules out Doncic and George and plenty of other great shooters, however, making the height props really hard to call. All the players entering this competition are going to be high-level shooters. One result of that could be that the majority of entrants are under 6’5.75, which might be what sways it.

Zach LaVine, who is listed at 6’6, has been spending much of his isolation time on Call of Duty, but he’s no stranger to showpiece events like this. LaVine has a big enough profile and the skill set to be involved in the NBA’s H-O-R-S-E tournament – would he be one of the favourites?

There’s such uncertainty at this stage, making it challenging to pick a bet. With a good chance the field is biased towards players under 6’5.75, that’s probably the best way to go, though LaVine, Doncic, George, Khris Middleton and others are cause for concern.

Perhaps all H-O-R-S-E betting is as simple as how likely you think it is that Steph Curry gets involved. The two-time MVP would be the clear favourite if he chooses to participate. He has been active on social media throughout the league’s suspension, and has been a frequent three-point contest entrant, showing a desire to perform in events similar to this one. Of all the league’s high-profile players, none seem to fit as well with a H-O-R-S-E tournament as Curry.
