  • The Lakers, Bucks, Raptors, and Knicks are all expected to make offers for Davis
  • The NBA trade deadline is February 7th

Thanks to Anthony Davis, there are now two huge sporting events that will unfold next week. Sunday sees the New England Patriots seek a record-tying sixth Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams. Thursday is the initial deadline in the Davis sweepstakes, and expect LA to be a big player in this contest as well.

Via his agent Rich Paul, Davis, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2019-20 NBA season, informed the Pelicans that he had no intention of signing a new deal with the team and they should trade him.

This decision has led sportsbooks to offer several wagers related to the outcome of the situation.

Pelicans in No Hurry To Move Davis

While it might seem that Davis has put Pelicans management in a desperate scenario, the initial response from the New Orleans’ brass seems to be ‘What’s The Hurry?’ They have him locked in for next season, and insist that they are in no rush to move their star player.

Davis has spent his entire career with New Orleans since he was selected first overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the then New Orleans Hornets.

Yeah, But What if they Throw in J.Lo and Cardi B?

At the start of the season, Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry insisted that there was no one in the league that he would trade Davis for, and no one outside of the league that he would trade him for, not even Beyonce.

Last spring, Davis led the Pelicans to a first-round playoff verdict over the Portland Trail Blazers, their first series win in the postseason since 2011.

Which Teams are Jonesing For Davis?

The Lakers didn’t go out and land LeBron James last summer just to be a competitive team. There’s already speculation that Davis has told Paul the Lakers are where he wants to end up.

In the Eastern Conference, both the Raptors and Bucks are expected to table offers prior to the deadline.

The Celtics are another rumored landing spot, but sources close to Davis have suggested that Boston is not a place he wants to go.

Davis did recently purchase a home in L.A., but don’t read into that. The majority of NBA players have off-season homes in Los Angeles.

What’s the Verdict?

Will Davis be traded prior to next week’s deadline? Unless a team comes in with a dynamite offer, the answer is no. The Pelicans recognize they probably can get more for him in the summer. There’s no need to make a panic move.

As to his November 1st, 2020 team, you still have to think it’s the Lakers. Davis will have time to watch how the Lakers build around LeBron and see whether he fits.
