The Toronto Raptors continue their lengthy six-game road trip on Friday in the desert against the 53-13 Phoenix Suns in a cross-conference matchup. The tip-off is scheduled for 9pm ET at the Footprint Center.

The Raps were in a bit of a rut, losing three straight prior to Wednesday’s win over the Spurs. Fred VanVleet’s return to the lineup made a huge difference, dropping 26 points after missing five games because of knee soreness.

As for Phoenix, they put their brilliance on full display, blowing out the East-leading Miami Heat by a score of 111-90.

While the Suns have been the more dominant team in this matchup, their first meeting of the campaign was a tightly-contested affair, with Phoenix winning 99-95 in January.

Raptors Betting Outlook

Toronto is right in the mix for a play-in spot and will likely either host or be on the road for the #7 vs #8 game. Despite their small losing skid, the Raptors are once again in good shape with the return of VanVleet.

Nick Nurse’s squad really struggled in his absence, especially from a ball movement standpoint. After all, FVV is their best playmaker and a true point guard who can do it all for this team. By no surprise, he made his presence immediately felt on Wednesday in San Antonio.

The first-time All-Star scored a team-high 26 points in a comfortable 15-point win. While VanVleet certainly showed out, he also had a lot of help.

Three of the Raptors’ five starters finished with at least 20 points, with Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam also enjoying impressive nights. Surprisingly though, their offense didn’t come from facilitating the ball at a high level. In fact, they had just 12 assists in the contest. Instead, numerous different guys, including VanVleet, did a great job of creating their own shot.

This is going to be a very tough game for Toronto, but the squad held their own against Phoenix last time out. It will take another valiant effort on the defensive end and another standout performance from VanVleet. The Raps also play slightly better on the road, compiling an 18-15 record.

Suns Betting Outlook

Frankly, Phoenix doesn’t get nearly enough recognition. After all, they’re the best team in the Association and proved just that on Wednesday in South Beach, absolutely annihilating a very well-rounded Heat group.

The return of Devin Booker from COVID-19 was huge for Monty Williams’ squad and immediately set the tone for the Suns, who led by as many as 27.

Book balled out for 23 points while dishing out nine assists, fully making up for the absence of Chris Paul, who continues to be sidelined with a hand injury. But, there was no shortage of efficiency elsewhere.

The entire first unit finished in double figures, with Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges combining for 40 points on their own. Another player who has really impressed lately as well is Cam Payne, who dished out 10 assists in Miami.

This wasn’t exactly a great shooting performance from the Suns, draining just 30% of their threes. It simply came down to contributions from everywhere and their domination of the boards, outrebounding the Heat 55-38. Even though Jimmy Butler was out, it was still a very impressive victory and showed exactly why Phoenix needs to be considered a legitimate title contender.

Raptors vs Suns Prediction

I do like how Toronto played down in Texas, but the Suns are just a different beast. Although they aren’t covering the spread very often lately, it’s because Booker was on the shelf with COVID-19.

Now that he’s back in the mix, they won’t have a problem getting it done here. Also, Phoenix is 28-7 at home. Lock it in.

Pick: Suns -6 (-110)
