After beating the Spurs by 10 points on Wednesday night, the Denver Nuggets will play the second of a back-to-back with San Antonio on Friday, April 9th, tip-off 9 PM EST.
Nikola Jokic’s 25 points and 10 assists led Denver to victory two nights ago as they look to surge up the Western Conference standings and continue their impressive hot streak.

After a rather decent first-half, San Antonio has immensely struggled since the All-Star break, going 6-11. The Spurs are currently on a four-game losing skid as well and have a 2-8 record in their last 10 games.
Wednesday wasn’t a banner night for either team, but for San Antonio, it was rough. They shot just 25% from downtown and only 42% from the field. Gregg Popovich’s team did show some fight against a red-hot Denver squad though. The Spurs went on a 12-0 run to begin the second half but ultimately ran out of gas late after some clutch buckets from Jokic and Michael Porter Jr.
Backcourt duo Derrick White and Dejounte Murray both dropped 18 points apiece in the loss, while DeMar DeRozan had just 14. The bench unit really looked non-existent which hurt the Spurs, combining for only 34 points.

Despite San Antonio’s dismal play lately, they’re still in playoff contention at 24-25. That puts them 9th in the West and it’s honestly just a matter of time until this team breaks out. After this Nuggets contest, the Mavs, Magic, and Raptors are ahead on the schedule, which could be the perfect opportunity to collect some victories.
Denver is Rolling
You’d be flat out to find a team in the association that’s firing on all cylinders like the Nuggets. They currently have the longest winning streak in the NBA at seven games, and funny enough, Denver hasn’t lost since acquiring Aaron Gordon from Orlando.
Although he’s averaging only 12.5 points and 4.2 boards, the former Magic star has been a solid addition for Michael Milone. In a victory over the Clippers last Thursday, Gordon was all over Kawhi Leonard. Just take a look at this sequence:

He may not be stuffing the stat sheet, but Gordon has brought a much-needed defensive impact to Denver. Once he gets more comfortable with his surroundings as well, expect Gordon’s offensive production to also skyrocket.
As for Jokic, he continues to solidify himself as the clear MVP favorite. The big man elevates his teammates thanks to outstanding facilitating abilities. Jokic has dropped 10+ dimes in the last three games, including 16 assists last weekend against Orlando.

The Nuggets are looking like a legitimate contender right now and were clearly the winners of the trade deadline. JaVale McGee has added another element to their inside game to complement Jokic and once Jamal Murray gets back to full health as well, there’s no reason Denver can’t keep up with the best of them.
Best Bet
Despite the Spurs losing skid, they’re 13-7 ATS away and 14-11 as underdogs. Just like their record on the year, San Antonio has gone 24-25 on the over and under in points.
The Nuggets have hit the over in 30 of their 51 contests this season and have won their last three by at least 10 points. It’s tough to go against Denver right now based on how they’re playing and that’s exactly why I won’t. But, the visitors will respond with a better performance in this second meeting and make it close.
