Miami is just playing out the string at this points as they have lost each of their last five games. Their most recent loss was a 66-58 rock fight with the Clemson Tigers on Saturday.

Virginia is in the middle of a rush patch of their own as they have now lost their last three games. They were shocked at home by North Carolina State as 11-point favorites the last time they were in action.

Miami Needs To Get Back on Track

The month of February started great for the Hurricanes as they beat Duke 77-75 on February 1st in a thriller. It looked as if for a second they might be able to get their season back on track. As fate would have it, that was the last game they would win in the month of February as they finished the month losing five straight. Though they didn’t win their last one, they were at least competitive against Clemson last time out.

The Hurricanes have struggled to score since losing Chris Lykes early in the season and they struggled again against Clemson. Although it should be noted the Tigers boast the nation’s 11th best defense in terms of efficiency (adjusted for opponent) so a low scoring affair was expected. Still, it’s hard to beat anyone only scoring 58 points.

One Hurricane who did not have any trouble putting points on the board was Isaiah Wong. The guard single-handedly kept Miami in the game dropping 28 points on a 10/18 shooting performance. It was his second straight game flirting with 30 points as he had 29 against Florida State a few days earlier.

Virginia Is Falling Fast

What a difference eight days makes in college basketball. On February 15th the Virginia Cavaliers were a top ten program coming off of a big win over North Carolina. Fast forward eight days and they are barely hanging on to a top 25 spot after losing three straight games. Their last one, a 68-61 setback, was inexcusable for a team vying for a number one seed in their conference tournament.

The Cavaliers are never really out of any game given they have the 15th most offensive offense in the country. They went down 17-4 to begin the game but ended up closing the deficit to four points with two minutes remaining in the first half. They actually led the game by two with less than 15 minutes left but it didn’t last. Virginia were outscored 30-16 in the paint for the game and only shot 37% which ultimately was not enough.

Best Betting Angle

As bad as things have been going for the Cavaliers lately, one bright spot has been Jay Huff. Outside of the Florida State game, he has been a one man wrecking crew. Huff has recorded a double-double in three of the last four games and last game he showed out on defense with five blocks and three steals.

Miami’s struggles on offense only seem to be getting worse. In three of the past four games, they’ve failed to score more than 61 points. Against Virginia, they will no doubt be involved in slow-paced game with limited possessions as no team in the country sees less possessions per game than the Cavaliers. This feels like a spot where both teams will have trouble reaching the 60s causing this one to go under the posted total.

The pick: Under 124.5 (-110)
