Hendon Hooker may have had his Heisman moment in college football Week 7. The Tennesse quarterback threw five touchdown passes on Saturday to lead his team to an upset win over No. 3 Alabama.

Sportsbooks were impressed by Hooker’s performance vs Alabama, as they significantly shortened the Tennesse quarterback’s Heisman odds. Hooker is now the second favorite to win the college football MVP award.

Will Hooker actually win the Heisman? Let’s take a look at the latest odds and analyze the landscape.

Hendon Hooker Heisman Odds

Tennessee quarterback entered Saturday’s Week 7 game against Alabama with +1400 odds to win the Heisman at FanDuel Sportsbook. By the time the matchup concluded, Hooker’s odds had shortened to +550.

Hooker threw for 385 yards and five touchdowns to help lead Tennessee to a 52-49 victory over Alabama. The Volunteers were an 8.5-point underdog in the game and snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Tide with the victory.

Hooker has been one of the best quarterbacks in college football this season, and he had his Heisman moment on the national stage in Week 7. On the year, the senior pivot has thrown for 1,817 yards and 15 TDs with only one interception.

Hooker still trails the Heisman favorite CJ Stroud by a decent margin, which speaks to how good the OSU quarterback has been in 2022. While Stroud has thrown for more TDs (24), Hooker is much more of a dual-threat (233 rush YDs).

Will Hendon Hooker win the Heisman? His path to winning is pretty clear, albeit difficult. Hooker needs to ball out against a very elite Georgie defense in November and then also have a strong showing in the SEC Championship.

Bryce Young Heisman Odds

The quarterback who come out on the losing end of the Week 7 SEC showdown was Alabama pivot Bryce Young. The second-year starter made his return to the Tide’s lineup after missing the game vs A&M last weekend due to a shoulder injury.

Young played well in the defeat, passing for 455 yards and two touchdowns against the Vols. It’s that missed game in Week 6 that really hurts Young’s Heisman chances. Additionally, Nick Saban is going to want to play it safe with Young’s shoulder going forward.

FanDuel dropped Young’s Heisman odds from +1600 to +2000 after the game, although they still list him as a top-five favorite. Given Young’s talent level, you can’t quite rule him out as a repeat Heisman winner.

Alabama needs to win out the rest of the way and then capture the SEC Championship for Young to have a shot at winning. The good news is that the final conference game is where Young locked up the trophy last year. The bad news is Bama doesn’t have their usual weapons at receiver this year.

Young’s new +2000 Heisman price gives him 4.76% implied probability to win. With the shoulder injury and the incredible season Stroud is having, we can’t recommend Young as a Heisman play despite his intriguing new price.

Other Week 7 Movers in Heisman Odds

Alabama vs Tennessee captured the attention of the college football world this weekend, but players from that game weren’t the only ones who saw movement in their Heisman odds.

Michigan running back Blake Corum was a notable riser in the Heisman odds following Week 7. The junior had another huge day on the ground Saturday, rushing for 166 yards and two TDs in a 41-17 victory over Penn State.

Corum has seen improvement in his Heisman odds almost every week, and this time FanDuel shortened his odds from +2000 to +1200. Given Corum’s consistent production all season, he’s looking like a strong bet to at least receive an invite to New York.

A couple other Week 7 risers were Oklahoma State pivot Spencer Sanders and North Carolina QB Drake Maye. Sanders accounted for 300-plus yards and three TDs in an OT loss to TCU, while Maye had 400-plus yards and three TDs in a close win over Duke.

Both Sanders and Maye went from +4000 to +3000 in the Heisman odds following their strong Week 7 performances. It’s hard to envision either player winning, but their numbers will be hard to ignore if their teams end up winning out.
