It’s Christmas Day and let’s face it, all we really want to be doing is betting on sports. Just like every year the NBA has obliged, but this year the NFL has as well rolling out a three-game slate on this magical day.

The second NFL contest of the afternoon pits Denver against Los Angeles in a game that is sure to be light on points. The matchup features the fourth lowest total on the Week 16 schedule, and bettors don’t believe the number is low enough according to the Broncos vs Rams public betting splits, and quite frankly neither do we.

That’s why our Broncos vs Rams same-game parlay is all about fading offense.

This Denver-Los Angeles SGP features just three legs, but pays out +215 odds if it hits. The first leg is a bet on both offenses overwhelming, which is quite probable considering they rank last and second last respectively in points per game.

Game Total Under 36.5

No team has seen a higher percentage of their games fall under the total than the Broncos. Denver is 11-3 to the under this season, with their contests failing to reach the total by an average of 8.1 points per outing.

The Rams under record isn’t quite as prolific, but it’s still been a cash cow for under bettors. LA is 9-5 to the under so far, with three of the four games they’ve played without Matthew Stafford falling short of the total.

Stafford won’t be suiting up again this season per the Broncos vs Rams injury report, while LA’s starting center Brian Allen is also looking doubtful with a calf injury he suffered on Monday night. That spells bad news for the Rams new QB Baker Mayfield, who hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire since joining LA – with the exception of two drives against the Raiders.

Also working in favor of the under believe it or not, is the return of Russell Wilson. The former Seahawks star has been abysmal under center for Denver, and it’s no coincidence that the Broncos offense finally looked competent last week with Russ on the sidelines.

Wilson has thrown for just 11 TD passes all season, which is still fewer touchdowns than bathrooms in his mansion. He’s produced only two multi-TD performances all year, and is a recommended fade in the Broncos vs Rams player props.

Rams Under 18.5 Points

Back to Mayfield now. Everyone was going crazy over his debut with LA thanks to back-to-back 75 and 98 yard touchdown drives to steal a victory from Las Vegas. However, what people seem to forget is that the Rams had just 109 total yards of offense through three and a half quarters, and the TD drives came against unspeakably bad soft coverage.

His second outing versus Green Bay looked more like the first three and a half quarters against the Raiders. The Rams mustered only 12 points and 156 total yards. The Packers defense is fine, but this Broncos unit is elite.

Denver ranks fourth on defense per DVOA and number one versus the pass. Only two teams allow fewer points per outing, while only three squads yield fewer yards.

The Rams are averaging 14.5 points per outing in Baker’s two starts, and they’ll be lucky to reach that number against Denver.

Either Team to Lose a Fumble

One of the reasons both the Broncos and Rams struggle so badly on offense is because they can’t hold onto the football. LA ranks 27th in giveaways per game, while only three teams fumble more often than Denver. Now, the Broncos have been recovering an extraordinary amount of their fumbles this season, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned about turnover luck, it’s that regression is inevitable.

NFL Team Fumbles Per Game

Rank Team Fumbles/Game
32 Indianapolis Colts 2.4
31 Chicago Bears 2.1
30 Green Bay Packers 1.6
29 Denver Broncos 1.6

Given how sloppy both offenses are, plus how good the Broncos defense is, banking on at least fumble to be lost on Sunday seems like a prudent choice.
