The Steelers slim playoff hopes are on the line tonight when they face the Ravens. Typically when these two AFC North rivals meet it’s a slugfest and online sportsbooks are expecting a similar result on Sunday Night Football.

Each of the past three meetings of this rivalry have been decided by three points or less, while the last two have failed to produce more than 30 points.

Bettors are leaning towards Pittsburgh +2.5 and over 35 per the Steelers vs Ravens public betting splits. We agree with the former sentiment in our PIT-BAL same-game parlay picks, while we have a different take on a total play.

Pittsburgh Steelers +2.5

Tomlin’s ATS record as an underdog is nothing short of spectacular. Since 2014 his teams are 34-19-4 against the spread when catching points per the Steelers vs Ravens picks. They’re 20-9-1 ATS as an underdog against divisional opponents under Tomlin, and have covered in three straight road games coming in.

Baltimore meanwhile, is just 1-5 against the spread at home this season as a favorite, and will once again be missing star quarterback Lamar Jackson per the Steelers vs Ravens injury report. Baltimore has won three of the four games Jackson has either sat or left early in, but has looked anything but impressive in doing so – more on that later.

These two teams met just three weeks ago in Pittsburgh, and while the Ravens squeaked out a 16-14 victory we shouldn’t expect a repeat performance. Mitch Trubisky played the majority of the snaps at QB for the Steelers thanks to an early Kenny Pickett injury, and threw three picks in Baltimore territory to kill scoring opportunities.

Pickett has thrown just one interception in his last six starts, and Pittsburgh is 4-1 in the last five games he’s started and finished under center.

Pat Freiermuth Over 29.5 Receiving Yards

When Pickett goes to the air, expect plenty of looks for tight end Pat Freiermuth. The second year tight end led Pittsburgh in both targets (8) and catches (7) last week against the Raiders, and is quickly becoming one of the most reliable players at his position.

He ranks fourth in Pro Football Focus’ receiving grade among tight ends, and third in yards after contract. His 1,193 receiving yards are the most by a tight end in franchise history through 30 games, and he’s exceeded 29.5 receiving yards in eight straight outings.

That includes the Week 14 matchup against Baltimore when he caught three of his six targets for 33 yards and a score. Those numbers were exclusively with Trubisky under center, so expect a more efficient stat line with Pickett, the superior talent, throwing him the ball. That makes Freiermuth a strong buy in the Steelers vs Ravens player props.

Baltimore Ravens Under 19.5 Points

In the four games that Jackson has either left early or sat out, Baltimore has averaged only 11.5 points. They put up just 17 points last week against Atlanta’s 30th ranked defense per DVOA, and the week prior managed only a field goal against a bottom-10 Browns defense.

Baltimore Ravens Last Four Games

Week Opponent Result
16 Atlanta Falcons W 17-9
15 Cleveland Browns L 13-3
14 Pittsburgh Steelers W 16-14
13 Denver Broncos W 10-9

Pittsburgh’s defense on the other hand, checks in at number 12 per DVOA, and is built take away the Ravens’ biggest strength which is running the ball. The Steelers are DVOA’s sixth best run defense, and are fresh off holding the Panthers and Raiders below 60 rushing yards each in back-to-back games.

Baltimore has failed to exceed 19 points in four straight meetings against the Steelers, and should fall short of 20 points again tonight.
