  • Adam Vinatieri missed two field goals and an extra point in Week 1
  • The odds favor the 46-year-old retiring following the 2019 season
  • What is the best bet?

Adam Vinatieri is 46 years old and still playing in the NFL. Yet, after a disastrous Week 1, many are wondering if this is the beginning of the end. Vinatieri missed two field goals (46 and 29 yards) and an extra point in Indianapolis’ 30-24 OT loss to the LA Chargers.

He did not look like the hyper-consistent kicker he has been for the better part of 24 seasons. Now, online betting sites have released odds on whether or not he will retire following the 2019 season.

Is There Any Value On “No”?

Right now, this certainly looks like it will be the final season Adam Vinatieri plays in the NFL. He took full blame for the Colts’ Week 1 loss, stating after game, “The only thing I’ve got to say is the guys played really, really well, and I 100% let them down. That loss is on me, nobody else. You come here and play against a good team, a team that made the playoffs last year, and the guys play well enough to win if I’d made just one of those kicks. 100% on me. I let the fellas down, for sure.”

The Colts are now 0-1 to begin the season. If the struggles continue, Indianapolis could very well part ways with the 46-year-old mid-season.

Yet, after a terrible game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs last year, he said he is not ready to retire. “If they’re wanting, I can’t imagine (I’d) not keep playing, you know?” Vinatieri said, via the Indy Star. “I haven’t made the decision yet. I’ll spend a week or two and just kind of see where we’re at.”

Although he doesn’t want to retire, if the struggles continue, I think he will hang them up. He is 46 years old and will turn 47 in December. His time playing professional sports is winding down and I expect the 2019 season to be the final one for the Colts kicker.
