  • The Bears and Texans do battle on Sunday Night Football
  • The latest NFL odds favor the Texans by 6.5 points

Sunday Night Football features an intriguing matchup between two young quarterbacks as Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears travel to Houston to take on C.J. Stroud and the Texans. Kickoff for Bears vs Texans is 8:20 pm ET at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Oddsmakers are siding with the home team on SNF, pricing CJ Stroud and the Texans as nearly touchdown favorites. Caleb Williams and the Bears are enticing moneyline underdogs in this battle of 1-0 unbeaten teams. NBC will carry this broadcast on Sunday night.

Here is our Bears vs Texans prediction, along with SNF betting odds and analysis.

Bears vs Texans Prediction

The Bears squeaked out a 20-17 win over the Titans in Week 1, but it wasn’t pretty offensively. Rookie QB Caleb Williams struggled in his NFL debut, completing just 14 of 29 passes for 93 yards. Chicago’s defense and special teams carried them to victory, forcing three turnovers and scoring twice.

The Texans, meanwhile, opened their season with a 29-27 road win over division rival Indianapolis. Second-year QB C.J. Stroud looked sharp, throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns. New addition Stefon Diggs caught both TD passes and finished with six receptions for 118 yards.

Houston leaned heavily on RB Joe Mixon, who had a career-high 30 carries for 159 yards and a touchdown. The Texans failed to cover the number, however, as Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson hit a late-game long bomb to help Indy backdoor cover.

I’m worried about the Bears’ offensive line heading into this one. Chicago’s O-line struggled to protect Williams in Week 1, allowing two sacks and consistent pressure. They face an even tougher test against Houston’s elite front seven led by Will Anderson Jr.

I think we’ll see another low-scoring edition of Sunday Night Football this weekend. Mixon projects to receive another heavy workload for the Texans after Chicago allowed 143 rushing yards to the Titans. The Bears’ offense, meanwhile, could be even more lethargic due to injuries to Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze (both questionable).

The Under is on a remarkable 27-10 run in Sunday Night Football games over the last three seasons. Bettors are seeing two talented quarterbacks and hammering the over. However, the line has dropped a full point, which tells you all you need to know about how the big-money bettors are expecting this one to go.

CHI-HOU Pick:

  • Under 45.5 (-105 at FanDuel best price)

Houston vs Chicago Odds

Chicago Bears +6.5 (-112) +220 Over 45.5 (-108)
Houston Texans -6.5 (-108) -270 Under 45.5 (-112)

Texans Sizeable Favorites in SNF Odds

The Sunday Night Football odds favor C.J. Stroud and the Texans to win by 6.5 points against the Bears. This means that in order to win your bets on Houston against the spread, the Texans must win the game by at least seven points.

Conversely, the Bears are 6.5-point underdogs, meaning they have to lose by six points or less to cash ATS wagers on them. On the moneyline, the Texans are heavy -300 favorites, giving them 73.3% implied win probability. The Bears have a 31.3% implied chance of winning.

This NFL betting line opened with Houston favored by 3.5 points, but the Texans have been steamed up a full three points. This isn’t surprising, considering the Bears didn’t score an offensive TD in their opener. The Texans, meanwhile, dominated the Colts, outgaining them 417 to 303 in total yardage.

If Allen and Odunze are confirmed out, you can expect the Texans to become favored by 7+ points before kickoff. Williams only averaged 3.2 yards per attempt in his NFL debut, and he clearly needs as many weapons as possible as he gets acclimated to the big leagues.

NFL team trends also support Houston favored by nearly a TD on Sunday Night Football. The Texans have covered in five of the past six meetings and are 5-1 ATS in their last seven games as moneyline favorites.
