The battle for the top of the NFC East standings heats up this weekend on Sunday Night Football with Cowboys vs Eagles, as undefeated Philadelphia plays host to surging Dallas.

The Eagles have been steady on both sides of the ball during a 5-0-0 straight-up run to start the season, capped by last week’s 20-17 win in Arizona.

The loss of star quarterback Dak Prescott to injury has not slowed done the Cowboys, who are coming off an impressive 22-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams that extend their current win streak to four games.

Cowboys vs Eagles Recent History

Sunday night’s matchup marks the first of two regular-season meetings between these NFC East divisional rivals. The Cowboys swept the season series last season, running up the score while averaging 46 points per game in those contests. Overall, the Cowboys have won three straight over Philadelphia, and seven of their past nine.

The Cowboys have produced mixed results when visiting Philadelphia, going 3-3-0 straight up over their past six. However, they have won outright in two of their past four dates with the Eagles when pegged as underdogs by 6.5 or more points.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Outlook

The Cowboys received some good news as Dak Prescott returned to limited action at practice this week. Sidelined since injuring his thumb in Week 1, Prescott remains listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest, but considering he has yet to participate in any competitive drills since his return, it is looking likely that Cooper Rush is in line for a fifth straight start.

Rush has been steady albeit unspectacular while filling the void under center in Prescott’s absence. The 28-year-old has racked up four touchdown passes during his four-game stunt as starter, and has brought calm leadership to the Cowboys offense. However, Rush has work to do to rebound after generating just 102 yards on 10-for-16 passing while failing to find the end zone.

Fortunately, the Cowboys’ defense turned in yet another stout performance in last week’s win in LA. The Dallas defensive line harassed Rams’ pivot Matthew Stafford all afternoon, sacking Stafford five times while limiting him to one scoring pass and one pick. Overall, the Cowboys have allowed just 20 total points over the past two games, and have allowed just one scoring run so far this season.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Outlook

The Eagles’ impressive ground game will likely face one of its stiffest challenges of the season on Sunday night. A pair of early scoring runs by Jalen Hurts set the table for last week’s win in Arizona. Overall, the Eagles have seen each of their past six touchdowns come on a scoring run, increasing their league-leading total to 12 on the season.

Indeed, Hurts has been key to the Eagles’ success on the ground. The Philadelphia quarterback has run for six total scores this season and currently ranks third in the NFL among pivots with 53.2 rushing yards per game.

However, Hurts has been far from prolific in the air, tossing for just four scores on the season and none in the past two games. He has also produced mixed results when playing in primetime, leading the Eagles to wins in his past two appearances under the lights, and tossing for five touchdowns. But those scoring passes have also been accompanied by five picks.

Cowboys vs Eagles Prediction

This matchup represents a clash between the Eagles’ prolific ground game and the Cowboys’ stingy rush defense. While seizing the early lead would make all the difference for the Eagles, this clash has all the makings of a defensive struggle, extending the trend towards low scoring that has prevailed in primetime games this season.
