The final Bills vs Rams injury report for the NFL season opener between the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams and the 2022 Super Bowl favorites the Buffalo Bills is out. It’s a short list, but it still contains a couple of significant names.
Bills All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White is out for certain. He’s been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list while still recovering from a torn ACL.
For the Rams, wide receiver Van Jefferson is the only starter showing up on the injury list. He underwent minor knee surgery in early August and will also miss the game.
The Bills are set as 2-point road favorites over the Rams for this 8:20 pm ET kickoff at SoFi Field on Thursday, September 8. Catch the broadcast of the game on NBC or via streaming on fuboTV in the USA. Canadian viewers can watch on TSN, or stream through DAZN. Player | Position | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|---|
Van Jefferson | WR | knee | out |
Travin Howard | LB | core muscle | out |
Quentin Lake | FS | knee | out |
Originally, the Rams were hopeful that starting wide receiver Jefferson would be able to go for Thursday night’s game. He underwent minor knee surgery in early August.

However, Jefferson wasn’t able to practice all week. He was ultimately ruled out for the game early Thursday.
His absence likely means more opportunity for second-year wideout Ben Skowronek. Skowronek made the team last season as a seventh-round draft pick and saw action in 14 games.
Look for Rams wide receiver Ben Skowronek (6-3, 220, 11 career catches for 133 yards) to play extensively as third receiver behind Cooper Kupp and Allan Robinson with Van Jefferson (knee surgery) still not quite ready to play, per a league source

During the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals, Skowronek came off the bench to replace Odell Beckham Jr after the latter tore up his knee during the game. Skowronek saw five targets from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the victory over the Bengals.
Buffalo Bills Injury Report
Player | Position | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|---|
Tre’Davious White | CB | knee | out |
Tommy Doyle | OL | foot | questionable |
Quintin Morris | TE | hamstring | questionable |
Ike Boettger | OL | Achilles | out |
By placing White on the PUP, it means the Bills will be without their best coverage corner for the first four games of the NFL season. Last season, White allowed a 50.8% completion percentage and 58.9 passer rating, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Both of those numbers were fourth-best among defensive backs with 50-plus targets last season.

Who’s replacing White is still up in the air as game time nears. Two rookies are next up on the depth chart for Buffalo – first-round draft pick Kaiir Elam or sixth-round pick Christian Benford. Elam is designated as the starter on Buffalo’s depth chart. However, Bills head coach Sean McDermott is planning to give both first-year corners playing time in White’s spot and eventually go with the one who is playing the best.
How Could Injuries Affect Bills vs Rams Betting Lines?
Certainly, minus White, the over on Rams QB Stafford’s passing yardage is looking like a solid play in the Bills vs Rams props. Then again, there is concern about Stafford’s arm. He’s dealing with tendinitis in his throwing elbow. The Rams have monitored his throwing work during the preseason. Stafford insists that the pain level is tolerable and won’t be an issue for him going forward. But it’s still something to keep in mind for your Bills vs Rams picks.
Rams QB Matthew Stafford underwent an off-season elbow procedure to deal with the pain he experienced last season and to help prepare for this season, per sources. Despite the questions about his elbow, Stafford is now said to feel better today than he did at this time last year.

Without Jefferson, NFL prop bettors might also want to look at the over on receptions and reception yardage for Allen Robinson as the veteran WR makes his Rams debut.
Speaking of overs, betting the over on the Rams vs Bills total of 51.5 points also is looking to be the way to play this wager. It’s the way the Bills vs Rams public betting trends are slanting with most of the handle and bet count on the over. The last time the Rams faced the Bills in 2019, Buffalo came away a 35-32 winner. LA scored 34 points in last season’s home opener.
