  • The Indianapolis Colts are 10.5-point home favorites over the New York Jets in the NFL’s Week 9 TNF showdown on Thursday, November 4
  • TNF Betting Record: 0-0 ML; 3-3 ATS; 1-1 O/U; -0.24 units
  • The Jets are 0-4 straight up and ATS on the road this season

The New York Jets are coming off their biggest win of the season, shocking the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31 behind backup QB Mike White’s 405-yard passing debut. Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts just suffered their most heartbreaking loss of the campaign, an OT setback to the Tennessee Titans by the same 34-31 margin.

As these two teams clash in the NFL’s Week 9 edition of TNF, on the surface, this sure seems like a week to bet on the Jets.

Here’s something to take under consideration that may change your mind. There was an old coach who once suggested he’d only found two places where his team was incapable of winning. Those places were home and away.

The 2-5 Jets have figured out the home side of the equation. Going on the road is an entirely different matter.

The Jets are 1-11 straight up and 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 away games. That includes on 0-4 slate on both accounts this season.

Perhaps it’s no wonder then that the oddsmakers are listing the Colts as 10.5-point home favorites in this contest.

Jets vs Colts Line Movement

Even though 59% of bets placed on the spread are backing the Colts, there’s been enough action on the Jets to shorten the betting line. Indy opened as an 11.5-point favorite.

It seems that 59 is the lucky number when it comes to wagering trends on this game. In terms of the moneyline, 59% are also backing Indianapolis. As well, 59% of total wagering is on the Over. That’s caused the total for this game to grow from 44 to 46.5 points.

The Jets have actually won four of six and six of eight from the Colts. They are 4-2 in their last six trips to Indianapolis.

However, in their most recent visit last season, New York was crushed 36-7.

Jets vs Colts Injury Updates

The biggest news is that Jets starting QB Zach Wilson (knee) is out for a second straight game. Left tackle George Fant (ankle), wide receiver Corey Davis (hip) and right defensive end Bryce Huff (back) are questionable.

For the Colts, oft-injured WR TY Hilton (concussion) is out. All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson (toe) and strong safety Khari Willis (calf) are questionable. DE Tyquan Lewis (knee) is out for the season.

Jets vs Colts Trends

Be honest. Up until Sunday, you thought Mike White was that other actor with Jack Black in School Of Rock. Well, turns out he’s also the Jets’ backup QB. And last Sunday at least, he was quite the QB.

In their win over the Bengals, White was the first Jets QB to pass for 400 yards since Vinny Testaverde. That was back in the days before Al Gore invented the internet and the majority of Americans thought Donald Trump was cartoonishly entertaining.

Before you go falling in love with White’s rags to riches tale, ask your dad about Clint Longley. On Thanksgiving Day 1974, Dallas Cowboys backup Longley replaced injured starter Roger Staubach and did his best impression of Johnny Unitas. For the remainder of his brief NFL career, Longley did his best impression of Johnny Manziel.

Sure, Colts

QB Carson Wentz threw two interceptions in 90 seconds in last week’s loss to Tennessee, one of them a pick-six. Wentz isn’t the best starting QB in the NFL, but he is a legit NFL starting QB. And the Colts defense that White will see on Sunday just shut down NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry.

Jets vs Colts Prediction

Don’t be blinded by the White. Music has its one-hit wonders. The NFL has any given Sunday.

The Colts haven’t been any good at all against good teams this season. But they’ve been very good against bad teams. They beat the Texans by 28 and the Dolphins by 10.

Best Bet: Indianapolis Colts -10.5 (-108), 1 unit
